Default Traveling to Las Vegas, Cheapest Way?

We're planning a small getaway to Vegas, leaving in about a month. Does anybody have any good tips on getting cheap flight / hotel, other than the obvious of just going to one of going to priceline, expedia, etc?

Are you gamblers? If so, do you belong to any player rewards clubs? If you do and the company has a property in Vegas, check what kind of offers they can give you.

Otherwise, check the websites for the hotels you might want to stay at. Offers are plentiful right now as business has been lousy in Vegas. You should be able to get a very good room on the strip for $50 or less.

We often stay at Sahara or Hilton. Because they are at the end of the strip, they tend to be dirt cheap. (& the Hilton is NICE - though under $50/night - easy). They have plenty of transportation options to get up and down the strip, so it's no biggie. Unless you want the experience of a bigger name Vegas hotel. Which it would probably be a good time to get a good rate - as Steve mentioned.

Last time we attended a timeshare presentation for 2 free nights at the Hilton. We actually had a good experience getting $50 for another presentation another time. Assuming you have enough time there to not mind a 2-hour detour. & that you can have the willpower to say NO! But - 2 really good experiences - we would do it again.

Southwest has dirt cheap flights from California. OR we just drive. So - no advice for traveling further.

thanks for the tips. i'm not a huge gambler. I'll spend $200/day at the craps table at the most, staying 3 days. I looked into the Hilton, and it got good reviews too. It is at the end of the strip but taking a bus shouldn't be a problem. We may do that.

A couple of years ago, they extended the monorail so that it now runs to the Hilton, so that is another transportation option. Single trips are $5, 1-day pass is $14, 3-day pass is $30.

Personally, I prefer to stay where we can walk to stuff, but if it was a choice of the Hilton or not going, I'd definitely take the Hilton. I love Vegas.
