When milk was cheaper by the two we froze one and thawed it later. We stopped doing that since we use more now and there is no cost savings any more buying more.
If the kids will drink the powdered stuff (yeech) then do that. If not, reduce milk consumption. Eliminate a cold cereal day (or two) will greatly help. |

If you have land, buy a cow! Make your kids feed and milk the cow! Lots of life's lessons for them, grass gets mowed and fertilized, and you get an endless supply of fresh milk daily!

First, Costco I've found has the cheapest prices on a gallon of milk.
I buy several gallons from there and to save the gas on making lots of return trips, I generally freeze 1 or 2 gallons at a time. You just have to take one out of the freezer and put it in the fridge several days in advance of your needing it, cus it does tak time to dethaw. But completely dethawed milk tastes exactly the same as any other milk. |

My vote is neither - if you don't want to pay for good quality milk, then skip it. But food is one place I don't try to cut corners. I prefer to pay a fair price for high quality food. If it is cheap and crap, I don't but it. This goes extra for animal products. I don't want a ton of hormones and antibiotics in my milk, eggs, etc. and I believe farm animals should be able to live with dignity. This I think is worth paying for. So organic milk, dairy and produce, locally produced when available, free-range as well if applicable.
Considering I haven't drunk hormone-added milk in over 10 years knowingly, I would not give it to my kid either. |
