There's something about fresh bread baking and the aroma in the house.

In the past I've baked bread with students at school. Many didn't realize that bread can be made and baked -- they just thought it was something that appeared on the grocery shelf. A nice perk was other staff would come into my room just to smell the aroma and they would relate who baked bread when they were growing up and what nice memories it invoked.

making bread from scratch is actually really easy. I figure that my home baked loaves of bread cost me about $1.50 using high quality ingredients and yeast bought in 4 oz. jars. I use King Arthur flour.

I don't think my breadmaker saves me much money since I can buy loaves of white bread for about $1.00, but the taste makes it worth it! Nothing's better than homemade bread!

I have killed 3 bread machines. As much as I enjoyed them, using them weekly wore them out. I'm making bread without them. It's not that much harder and I don't have to store the bulky machine.

Don't waste money on a machine, just make a no-knead dough recipe from scratch. Works out to less than 0.50 per loaf and you don't need to buy machinery. Great recipe on motherearthnews.com that takes 5 minutes.
