Default Wntd Bacteria, FL tm pos. SLRY is rm/brd al.u.cn EAT

Just being silly here, we have lots of long hair in the family and I have always had an uphill battle with slow drains, I discovered boiling water is essential when using baking soda to clear drains(really helps), and that bacteria in the pipes will eat the gunk out. Well I need some bacteria in there! (I am guessing there is some, but not the right kind I)

I looked online for some to buy and it costs around 45$ for 2lbs, even though 2 lbs is supposed to do a huge amount of drains, I still don't have 45$, anyone know where I can find some cheap bacteria (of the right sort) looking for lots of gunk to eat?

This is gonna sound really stupid, i know nothing about drain bacteria, but i am going to mention it anyway. if you know the type of bacteria you are wanting to buy, maybe there is a way to make it, or to encourage its' growth. Maybe a science website would help.

Just a very grossing little thought...

You might want to try the stuff they make for septic systems. Here we can get it at the grocery store. I also heard about a woman who used baking yeast. A septic man told a friend of mine to put a cup of yeast down the toilet to prolong the time between emptying it. You could also get those little strainers that will prevent hair from going down the drain. If the slow drain is in the kitchen sink, make sure u don't pour your grease down.

One time I had a problem in our bath tub & bathroom sink. It even got so bad that they clogged. I tried draino & such, but it only helped a little. I finally got out the toilet plunger & plunged the heck out of them. I got out gobs of gunk & hair. Was much cheaper & more effective than draino.

The plunger works great, but I don't plunge! I am trying to avoid the need for weekly plunging. I might try the yeast, I wonder if the yeast from a 'starter' for sourdough would work?

I was told by a plumber years ago that anything with caffiene (I am a bad speller sorry if that is wrong) will break the stuff up and make it wash down. I don't know but that is what I was told.

Also vinegar and baking soda will clear it out. It makes a cool bubbling action. Pour baking soda in... when the drain is dry.... then pour the vinegar slowly in... keep pouring in until it no longer bubbles. Then I flush with bleach water.

For what it is worth...my husband sold septic tank systems for years. People are still calling him about this type thing. I always hear him tell them to buy "Bio Jet 7". You might try locating this and trying it. Good luck.
