And if you do what kinds of things do you make?
I sew. I go through phases of sewing a lot, and then not touching my machine for a month or two. I sew for my daughter mostly, although I have made curtains and pillow covers, and cloth napkins. I have made a few things for myself, but I still need more practice getting things to fit just right. |

I sewed all the curtains in my house: (about 13 window's worth). I also alter clothes that I buy on clearance, for myself, as well as mending everyone's clothes in my family.
I made belts from scratch for Christmas this year, and have been churning those out! |

I have a sewing machine and I am too scared of the thing to even fix my big pillow. I think it only needs a straight line to keep the stuffing in, but.....

Sewing is great! I made my children's coats when they were small, plus their clothes. And mine. I made my daughter's prom dress in high school. It was beautiful. I sewed a lot for her and myself. Even made a suit for husband. Sewing just takes a lot of practice. I have made curtains, upholstered furniture, etc. It takes a lot of determination. I took a dress of my sister's once, cut it down and made my little one a dress from it. That was sooo much fun. Just follow your imagination...and talk about saving money!

I mended my clothes when I lived in Mexico and my (ex)mother-in-law did it for a living some point in her life and then decided to get a Career. So, I was always fancinated by the things that she would make.
I had always wanted to learn how to sew and make clothes for my daughter and I. I think after I am established I will buy myself a sewing machine. Jacquelyn |

I do all my sewing by hand, even though I do have a machine,I find that sewing by hand relaxes me. Yes I guess you could say I have made the usual items like potholders, throw blankets, pillow cases, pillows, clot napkins. I like handsewing because I can take it anywhere and start doing it. With my sewing machine I would have to set it up when I wanted to sew and take it down when I did not want to sew. For me it is easier just to handsew.

I can sew a hem on my pants and do some basic mending. I can also sew a button back on. All my sewing is done by hand. I don't think the wife would let me near the sewing machine.

I can do the same thing. I have taught my dh how to sew on a button and I think that is all he know's how to mend. Otherwise he stays away from my sewing box.

I sew, as often as possible these days. Have worked for Singer, both in sales and teaching. Loved that job as I got to help make the model garments for display each month. Just wandered through the store picking out the pattern, fabric and all the notions. Gads what a waste of money that was for the store. All of us had most of the notions at home already..........but we sure got to stockpile using the stores method. I was so broke then, sewing with all new items, getting exactly what I wanted was absolute heaven.
It was because of this job I ended up sewing for extra money. Another woman in the store told me to try advertising..........I did and it was amazing. I was always busy. My favorite thing to do is alterations. I love to make something work for a customer that is unuseable in the current condition. Also love to modify things for people with disabilities. I think if we had a fire here, I would be taking sewing machines out before anything else! (and my good shears!!) |

I make quilts here & there. Though, I've got one I've been working on for more than 5 yrs that my mom started nearly 40 yrs ago. So far it's 12 feet by 4 feet. The only one I've finished I made for my oldests baptisim. I'd love to start & or do more if I had the time & space

I sew too. Have made all the curtains in my house. Funny how so many of my fellow frugals have made their curtains. Such a big savings. I used to make clothes for my girls when they were younger. Some clothes for me. Lots of mending and alterations. My one daughter was involved in theatre so I've made a lot of costumes too. Right now I'm working on on curtains for my LR.
