The most outlandish frugal thing I ever did was buy Wisk detergents in a puck-like form. I forget now what they called them, but sample size detergents sold for around $.50, but contained a coupon for $1 off. Eventually I found a drugstore with a manager who REALLY wanted to get rid of them. He not only "let" me use the coupons, he actually had 2 employees behind counters waiting for customers to open the small sample boxes, take out the coupons and ring up a sale for the detergent disks. After some time he decided to make it really easy, and loaded the entire stand up display into my car. It was a great deal for me... $.50 bought enough detergent to use for a then family of 6 for 11/2 years. Love to do something like that again! The only other cost was sales tax.

I guess this is pretty mild, but I never buy a box for gifts, especially clothes. Cereal boxes, granola boxes, etc. work just fine. Even is you still have some food left, if it has another inside container (such as cereal bags or individual wrappers) you can still use it.

I take shampoo and soap too. If the place is swanky enough, I might even get make-up remover. The last place I stayed was overseas, and I forgot my $180 hair straightner though.

This is really disgusting but I had a friend that did not flush the toilet every time she used it. I asked her about it and she said she was trying to save money. She also said it saved her $25 a month. I guess it's okay if your willing to go that low. $25 is not worth that to me though.

$55 a month for water, is too much. I pay like 27 and I think it's too much. Well, we still pay the same regardless how much we use, so I make sure I use enough what i pay for. I water my lawn good, so the grass would be green and the garden would have veggies and save me $$.

I guess that the people that have more than one person in the family can do this. Once 1 person needs to use the bathroom, ask other family members if they need to go, then after everybody is done, flush it. That way it won't stink for a half a day or so, and the toilet cleaning would be easier and lees friquent.

Yesterday I was at Walmart. I bought some cucumbers. the price said 44c / lb.

When I got to the register the cashier said they are sold by each, so they are 44 c each. I said, no, whatever price it says there, you have to give me that. Each cucumber is about 12oz, so it's less than a pound and it would be cheaper that way. The other guy working there went and checked it and I was right. They didn't know how to sell it by weight, so they charged me for 2 instead of 3 that I had. So they charged me 88c instead of 1.32 that they were going to. And best of all I was right.

when i was in college i took a on your own time excersize class, i would go whenever i wanted. i would go to school in my sweats, work out, then shower and dress for the day, on my way home i would stop in the locker room and pick up my sweats and wear them again the next moring. i had my water heater off at home for 5 days of the week. only when i needed to run the dishwasher. i never showered at home thanks to my work out routine, no electricity for the hair dryer, and part of being in a p.e. class is a towel, not a very big one so i would take my own also. i would place my home towel it in the sauna after showering and dressing, (which was rarely used and only dry heat when not used. ) when done doing my hair, brushing my teeth and make up i would get my dry towel and fold it and place it it my locker. (i actually had 2, 1 for clean stuf, and one for the sweaty clothes. this saved on laundry also. college requires frugal.

I pay $20 a month for water. Except once or twice when I had to water the lawn, my bill has always stayed the same, so why not flush everytime!

There are more reasons to not always flush than monetary. In San Francisco int he late 70's and early 80's we had water issues. No one I knew got ill from a small amount of urine sitting in a toilet with the lid closed. I'm somewhat bothered by the level of judgment here. If someone is doing this, it can be a very valid choice, especially if there are water shortage issues.

That person who did'nt flush every time is not alone.
I do not flush everytime eather. When I was growing up there was seven of us kids...keep the toilet torn up untill we stop flushing so much.
I guess I do it now to save and because of what I learned as a child growing up in such a
big family. We had to be very frugal and I still am.
A little bleach poured in do wonderful as a cleaner.

Funny, I just had this conversation with my Grandfather this morning. He doesn't flush everytime either. I wonder how much would you actually save?

We pay the same amount for water every month, so it doesn't save any money. The only time we pay more is when we water the lawn a lot.
