I absolutely hate talking on the phone, so I am definitely not addicted to my cell phone. I have a Tracfone that I use for important things only (calls from school about the kids, etc)....it's worked well for me for the last 4.5 years. I probably use less than 30 minutes a month, if that.

I have to say it cracks me up to see parents out walking with their kids in strollers, or at the park, talking on their cell phones. Put them down, and just hang out with your kids!

Not at all.. I def love the convenience.. but I don't like being too accessible.. If someone knows you have a cell phone, it's like "why didn't you call me back within 5 minutes of me calling?" No.. I'll call you on my terms when I'm not out doing my own thing..

I actually just made a step away from any potential cell phone addiction I may or may not have.... About 5 minutes ago, I walked out of the AT&T shop down the street, having just removed my data package (which I really haven't used too much anyway). Total savings: $30/mo. NICE!

Thats one of my problems, I use it so much by the time my contract is up mine is so worn out I must upgrade it and get locked into another contract. My current contract is up in July and my Blackjack key pad already has a lot of the paint wore off and the screen is scratched up.

I don't use my phone very much at all, maybe 30-60 minutes/month. I've found that the battery is the weak spot. After a couple of years, the charge doesn't last as long. My phone is over 2 years old now and where I used to charge it every 10-14 days, I'm now needing to charge it every 3-4 days. Another few months, and I'll probably have to replace it simply for that reason.

LOL I have an extra battery and a car charger LOL Not because my battery is bad but even the extended battery wont last one work day of me using it, that's how addicted to it I am. About 6 hours after the start of the work day I need to put a fresh battery in. Anyone want to ban together and found a cellphones anonymous group?

So not addicted but you would never know it. I only have my phone plan because of calling my parents. My father, stepmother and stepbrother will all take turns talking to me in one phone call so I end up on it for 2-4 hours every other week. I bought a bluetooth head piece to avoid hurting my ears. I also refuse to stay home just because they are talking forever so I will go to the zoo, eat breakfast, whatever while on the phone with them. One of the guys at a restaurant we like laughed at me because he knew I had been on the phone the whole time and I told him I was chatting with my parents (not the type of restaurant to care, it was a diner). Normally I try to avoid the restaurants but that time the parentals called me.

All other talking on my phone could take place on a prepaid for a lot less money. *Sigh* but there really isn't a polite way to tell your family that they talk too much.

I was actually quite surprised of late.... I used to never use more than 250 minutes a month on my cell phone (no other home phone), and always less than 25 texts. So I was planning on transitioning to a prepaid setup--it would save me at least $10-15/mo. However, looking over my bills for the last few months, I realized I'm actually using closer to 350-400 mintes/mo now, and 50-60 texts. It's all still well within the limits of my contract plan, but doing the math for a prepaid plan, it no longer would be a savings for me--some months (esp. around the winter holidays), it would have as much as doubled my phone bill. So it looks like I'm sticking with contracts for a while longer....

I eventually broke down and got unlimited everything. I got tired of getting bills that were $400 for sending 5800 text messages in one month lol. I figured hmmmm I cant stop my addiction so getting unlimited everything for $140 per month or so is better than the $400 per month right? So actually I am feeding my addiction and saving money at the same time lol.

that seems like a lot to me. I have a blackberry with unlimited texting and 500 everday minutes. That is easy to stick to because it is free to call within my network and I also have the list of phone numbers i can add. it costs me about 90.00 before taxes for this phone and also includes internet and all that for free. I do love my blackberry!

Any tips on how to learn how to live again without it?

A $160 per month? Wow!!! It might be hard for you to do but you should downgrade your phone to one with less capabilities. Or just push yourself to slowly reduce certain activities.
