Good to hear word on your progress ~ Best wishes to you and yours!

Another bit of advice is that when you're really short on money and need it quick - and can't borrow it or come up with it through any other means, then Day Labor is an option for you and/or your husband. I don't know if you have these offices are in your town -- but it's basically "work today get paid today" jobs. Nothing to build a career off of and the pay isn't much, but it can help you get out of a bind in some Tight situations.

You should sign up for WIC. You will qualify easily. It will help a great deal on formula cost and other food staples as your baby gets older.

We already have it. We also have food stamps. I don't know what we would do without them! When my son was still on formula, WIC was saving us about $140 a month just on Similac. That doesn't include the cereal and juice.

Quick update:

My husband's grandparents wrote a check directly to our landlord as a Christmas present. They paid $200 of it, and we already have $250 saved up, so we have a head start on next month!

I'm never getting myself in a situation like that again. What a disaster.

Having read the entire thread, I'm glad to hear that things are starting to look up for you.

That being said, I'm surprised that no one suggested the obvious: Selling your computer. That probably would've gotten you a couple of hundred bucks or so.

I thought about it a few times, but I use it for school and work. It definitely would have been nice though.

I don't. I started a business but it is somewhat stagnant right now. DH is starting his new job in a couple weeks. Our landlord is letting us pay a couple months ahead when we get our tax refund so we will be set until regular paychecks start coming in.

You mentioned your husband is good with computers. Can he put an ad on CL or locally to do that as a side job from the house, helping people with their computers?

If you get stuck for rent money again, try Modest Needs. It's a charity that helps people out of tough situations like that.
