Default Being frugal with your gas yet?

How often do you see something to save on gas?? Not often in my opinion that's why I find this cool. The PowerPump program at Safeway.com/powerpump, Vons, Dominick's, Tom Thumb, Randalls and Genuardi's is cool...you earn Gas Rewards by using your card when you buy your groceries, prescriptions and certain gift cards. Have you used this to save at the pump yet?

IF we spend $100 at Bel Air we get a quarter per gallon off gas. We use this exclusively for our big vehicle (16 gallons per fill up).

We get 3 cents off at Safeway (sometimes 10 cents? When we accumulate some amount of purchases?) We also get a dime off at BEl Air when we spend $50. We use all these on our smaller car.

Safeway we have a card, but for Bel Air all you need is your receipt. Which is REALLY nice.

Reminds me, just filled up the van for $1.80/gallon (I haven't seen under $2 otherwise).

For us, these are the stores we shop anyway and their gas stations are most convenient for us, so win-win.

Only problem is Dominick's is twice as expensive as the other grocery stores in the area. I'd rather buy groceries at a cheaper store and then use my 5% reward card to buy the gas.

I participate in similar offers in my area; however, the store chains are different. The stores around here have been doing it for a couple of years now.

yeah at Safeway you can earn Double Gas Rewards by spending $100 dollars on gift cards with your Safeway card. nice because the holidays are here so when you need to buy gift cards for friends, family, secret santa you'll earn more rewards and save more.

There is one gas chain around here that has posters up that if you get their credit card, you'll save $0.38/gallon. In the tiny print at the bottom, it says, "Based on $3.80/gallon." That's very nice, except gas is down to less than $1.80 currently, so your actual savings would only be less than $0.18/gallon. I think they need some new posters.

sounds like shell? i think i've seen the same signs around here... still, 10% is pretty good. 2 problems: it's just another CC (annoyance), and they tend to have the highest prices in town....

Also, I think the 10% is just a promo rebate for the first couple of months. Then it drops down, probably to 5%.

I don't think any of the brand-specific credit cards are worth having. It tends to be the more costly brands that offer cards anyway. Down the street from us, there are 2 stations across from each other. The Shell station is always at least 25 cents more per gallon than the US Gas station 30 feet away. Last night, they were $1.71(US Gas) and $1.99 (Shell) so even a 10% discount at Shell would still have it be more expensive.

Tom Thumb here is way pricey.

Might be an option to search out if I were to get into couponing and loss leader sales to make it more of a bargain.

We saved a lot just by going to Wal Mart who happens to have a gas at their store (which we have not purchased yet).

I drive an LPG Ford 4Litre sedan and gas prices have been low for months and months. Plus because its a factory fitted LPG car it runs really well and fuel economy is excellent. Definately worth a try - beats dodging filling up on certain days and all the other minor fixes you can try to do to shave off an extra dollar from the bill.
