Default Library services

What type of services do libraries offer besides lending out books? I know ours also rents out videos and have computer access, but I was wondering if there are other services they might have that I wasn't aware about.

Our library will order a movie for you if they don't have it.

U can also rent cd's and dvd's.

They also have literacy programs & reading programs. I guess u can say they also offer babysitting--at least at our library. It seems to be a place that kids like to hang out.

I love our library. We have the books, videos and dvd that you can take out for 1 week. Great selection of kids movies and not too bad on adult ones either.

Our library also runs regular programs for adults as well as several weekly programs for kids.

Our library rents some, but most videos are FREE. They also have a kids story hour, once a week, its great. Kids hear the story teller read and act out parts of the book, while parents can go to the rest of the library. The rule is you cant leave the building, but its nice to go off on your own to read. The also do research if you are into genealogy.

dvd, children's programs, book circles where they all read a book and discuss it, teen programs during the summer such as crafts, reading circles, read so many books during the summer and get certain restaurnat coupons, genaology (sp). Where I live they are building a new library because our old one cost to much for maintenance which is a shame beacause the artchtiet (sp) of the old library is beautiful.
Sorry about my spelling. It's to early in the morning for me.

Ours has all that have been mentioned, but the best part for me is their website. I can access my account, check to see what items we still have checked out to keep us on track.
Also, I can reserve books & be notified by email when they're in....... I can renew books this way too.

Our system doesn't charge late fees, I've seen so many posts on here about overdue library books. Caused me to be very grateful we don't do that here! I'm just as bad as my kids with my library things, they get spread out and are tough to gather up when it's library day.

ours has exibits, a heritage room, the kids have thier own play room, rent out for free books, mags, movies, and music too. your allowed an hour a day on the pc there too. they also have story hours, ive yet to hit one yet but sometimes sheryl crow has read at our library, very exciting, i hope my kids get to catch that sometime. our library also honors the kindergarden. each child is matched with a book and a sleeve in put in it, naming that child and what year.

I worked at a small town library which would check out vcrs (no dvds in those days) and you could use their overhead projector in the library (one woman brought in her own original artwork, taped some white paper to the wall and projected the art to the wall and copied it).

They would also lend slide projectors (with a deposit). Fax and copy for a charge and ran a summer reading program where you could drop off your kids.

The best way to find out what is available is to ask the librarians. Be complimentary ("I really love having this library, it's so great") and then ask how you can utilize it more.
