Default Home Economics: 50 Ways We paid offf Our House

I am so excited about a new link I found today. The site is lainesletters.com
She has oodles of money saving tips. Today I down loaded all her alphabetical letters. I have over 500 pages of her writing. Some of it isn't on being frugal--It's spiritual also. Here is her link to Home Economics: 50 Ways We Pad Off Our Mortgage On One Income:

http://lainesletters.com/letters/homeec.html

She also has a gazzilion recipes on her site, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

Please keep in mind that this is a Christian women's site. So if you're a man or take offense to Christians, you might not want to go to this site.

OK for any christians out there, I need some advice. My husband is a borderline christian, he tolorates my beliefs, and will even occasionally tolorate a church, so long as it doesn't preach anything he doesn't agree with too often. but he doesn't believe in tithing, never has. He doesn't like what the churches do with his money, and he is hard sell on donating anyway, he would rather make money on it. Does anyone know how to talk him into tithing? I am a christian, thou I never tithed, for much the same reasons, I like to help people I know need it, not buy the church pastor a new car. but right now I am desperate, I can barely keep my head above water never mind start bailing out the boat. So I am willing to try anything ethical to get in better shape. And all christian sites recomend tithing first.

hmmm.... perhaps finding a charity run by the church or by Christians?
something like: www.love-link.org (run by a Christian couple) or www.hogarvitoguarato.org/fhp/indexen.asp (funded by Father Vito Guarato, of the Franciscan order)
Perhaps not exactly this ones, but something like that in the US? while it isn't exactly tithing, it IS giving money to the work of God through members of the church...

uum, don't shoot me for expressing my beliefs on tithing, I'm just putting it out the way I was taught and now believe. Giving a 10th of my income is what the bible teaches that I should do. Therefore I've fulfilled my spiritual obligation. If the church where I pay my tithe's misappropriates the funds, they have to answer for that, not I. I've done what I'm supposed to do with my money.

Now tithing doesn't have to be to a church. It can be to a charity or to your friend whose stuggling in my opinion. Its for the upbuilding of the Kingdom of God, so I sent my 10th to the Tsunami victims this month.

I agree with Sharon.

In the old days, the church needed a lot of funds to pay for widows, poor, homeless, & missionaries. Now the church pays for $40 million buildings and worthless activities. I visited a church that bragged that they give 10% of their income to missionaires. Since they no longer support the poor & fatherless, I thought this was way too little, especially since they were in the process of buildin a $40 million addition. And from talking with one of their members who goes to my Bible study, they have had no church growth for a few years. So why do they need the addition?

I give a portion of my husband's income to my church with his permission. My husband is like your husband. He thinks his belief in the Lord will save him even though the Lord doesn't have his heart. Then with the allowance he gives to me, I tithe to missionaries. Some of my favorites are Gospel for Aisa (gfa.org), Back to Jerusalem (www.backtojerusalem.com), Open Doors (www.opendoorsusa.org) which is a Bible smuggling group, and Regi. Regi is from & lives in India. He pretty much heads his church's work with missions. The mission is regiestered with India, but India doesn't allow them to receive funds. So I send a check directly to Regi. You can reguest his newsletter by emailing him at regi@usa.net.

I truly believe that if you become a woman like in lainsletter, your husband will come to Christ. The Bible promises this. I am not like that woman, but I have begun my journey. This morning, I rose at 6 am to have devotional & worship. Laine says that about 6 years ago, she was a nominal Christian, and the Bible says the Lord hates the lukewarm (nominal)
She began her journey with a promise to the Lord that she would arise early & give the first tithe of time to him. He changed her remarkably.

If your husband will not allow you to tithe his income, ask him if you can tithe from your budget.

My husband is borderline in that he figures there prolly is a God, but if he believed he needed to be saved he would do something about it.

My budget? If I had a budget for me I could do whatever I wanted with it, but we are firm in the yours is mine and all that, and right now there is not enough for the bills, so we certainly don't have any left over for my budget. He works, I don't, so it is all technically his money. I just spend it . but I would never spend it on anything he doesn't want me too, or atleast not that I couldn't easily talk him into. And tithing I can not easily talk him into, but I will try the pray/bible study and maybe he will come around for a charity if not for a church.

Thank you for the ideas.
