Ok this might seem like a silly question, but honest I don't know. Does a microwave use less power than the stove? When I was a kid we were taught how to heat up food on the stove, course we didn't have a microwave, but I was led to believe they were a big waste of money. Have microwaves changed or was it the initial cost my mother was bothered about?

Yes, a microwave uses less energy. A convection oven also uses less energy. Because of the small capacity, you are using less heat.

I use my microwave whenever I can. Heating up the stovetop takes so much more energy!
