Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Daily Money Saving Challenge will go on vacation for part of December. The reason for this is that I will be moving back to the US. As many of you know, both Nate and I run this site (we don't have a huge staff like other sites) in our spare time. We try to keep it actively updated and spend most of our spare time working on it. With the coming move, however, I will not have much spare time as I pack everything up and relocate back to the US.
I have challenges in place through December 3rd so they will keep coming until then. I will add some more if I have time, but I'm not sure if I will or not. The weekly newsletter update for the site will still go out on Mondays.
The good news is that once I'm back in the US, I will have a lot more resources at my disposal which should allow me to post even more money saving information for everyone. If you have any questions about this, just leave them here and I'll be sure to answer them as soon as I can. Thank you all in advance for your understanding.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
sorry you will be "missing" for awhile. while i drink my coffee in the am, read my e-mail and put off the commute to work you are the first thing i always read. you have given me some ideas, but most important a little moral support in this consumer world. thanks again and will be looking forward to you coming back full time.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
The hope is that sometime in the next few years I can turn this site into my "real" job, but we are still a long way off on that (at least we've made it to the point where we are breaking even and not spending money on the site). Until then, we will continue to try and keep it constantly updated with the spare time we have, but when something like this move comes along, there just aren't enough hours in the day.
Once I'm back and settled in, I'll get the Daily Challenges off and running again

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
I also will miss the Daily Challenge.
I just discovered your site a week or so ago and I am in LOVE. What a wonderful boost for my spirits to know someone else is far ahead of me in this saving game. Your ideas are practical and doable.
Thank you so much.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
Thank you for the kind words and rest assured that it is only a temporary leave of absence. The Daily Challenges will be back in full swing (hopefully better than ever) as soon as the move is over and I can get settled into the new place.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
I'm happy to hear that you enjoy the site and it has been helpful. That has always been our goal. Thank you also for wanting to help us make a living at running this site. By far the best way you can help is by simply spreading the word about this site. If you think this site would be helpful to friends or others you know, let them know.
The easiest way to do this is if you come across an article or forum thread on the site that you think would be of particular interest to the people you know, use the "email this page" function under "thread tools" toward the bottom of each thread. Or simply mention the site when you are talking with friends.
This site has grown quite a bit since we came up less than a year ago. We haven't done any paid advertising yet, so most of the growth has been by word of mouth. I know a good portion of it has been from members telling their friends (both online and off line) about the different saving ideas they have found on this site. If we continue to grow, then eventually we can make this our "real job" -- as you can probably already tell, it is already our passion

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
I will try but in a whole day of racking my brain I can't think of one friend who actually trys to save money! Kind of pathetic, but it certainly explains why I feel so alone. Well felt, then I found you and all is better now

Just because they don't try to save money doesn't mean that they couldn't benifit from saving
Actually, that is one of the reasons we started the site. People want to save money, but not put in the effort that it takes to save. We wanted to give quality information that would help everyday people save money without disruptiing their current lifestyle completely.
There is no reason to go out of your way. Hopefully we will provide enough quality information that from time to time you will find something on the site that you will want to pass along to your friends and do so when it is appropriate.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
Allright Ms.Perky ! Way to go! I thought I was the only person who had no friends that save money!
Oh, I have some who moan all the time that there is just no way they can afford to do anything, but mention a budget, or heaven forbid - using a coupon - and they faint. You know what gets me? They won't even save the coupon inserts for me unless I call every Sunday and ask!
Living a frugal life is not painful. We find it kind of neat, and we get so excited when we find a "new" way to save - I don't think you'd want to be around us.
Just hang in there, and this is an AWESOME site.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
Perky it is, and how nice to be wise about saving at 25!
You have such a bright future ahead of you.
Did you check out the government benefits site of today's challenge? It is really neat. I am going to give the website address to my physician's office later this morning so they have it for patients. Also the free annual credit report site (and printed request form).
Have a great day!

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
Well I can't very well be a libertarian and want the govt to get it's nose out of my buisnes if I go inviting them in now can I? But I did archive it in Gmal so that I can show my single mom and broke friends. Though why my tax money should pay for their groceries when they are buying cable is beyond me.
I did go just to see and apparently I am eligeble for WIC and lots of child care assistance (I am home so it is unneeded) Plus possible something about a teacher exchange thing, which does look cool.. Don't get me wrong, if your kids health is at stake (or yours) please use the govt assistance, but if you just want to keep the cable running, well, I guess we all have our vices. (mine is having kids
I am just trying to pay off the credit card from my seconds birth, It can take a little longer if it has to. BTW don't pay off the medical bills with a credit card! They arn't allowed to charge as high of an intrest as the credit card! (or well check anyway)
The credit report was cool, we just go ours right before and are in the process of stopping all the junk mail/credit card offers.
got a link today to the DMA site if you want it.
http://www.dmaconsumers.org/consumerassistance.html
Not sure if it will help. Wont know for 3 or so months.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
Great to hear the challenges were worthwhile and worth passing along to others. It's very nice of you to do that for others. I'm sure that some will find the information useful.
I'm hoping the move goes smoothly so I can start them up again before the end of the month. Beginning tomorrow everything starts to get packed up.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
I miss the challenges already! They were the first thing I checked when I got up in the morning. I'm going into withdrawal.
How is the moving going? I hope well so the challenges come back soon.

Re: Daily Challenge Going On Vacation In December
The packing is going well. Still a lot of boxes to fill, but that is to be expected. Sorry for the withdrawal symptoms. I will get those back up and running as soon as the move is complete. I appreaciate your patience and understanding while it takes place.
