I was looking at the Settlers of Catan the other day. It has good reviews. But, I was wondering if the video generation would have the patience to play such a game. We have also been play poker with chips but that is probably not the best thing I should be teaching the kids!

actually, i think in a lot of ways poker can be an excellant money lesson. it's a very real experience in the concepts of risk and reward when it comes to how you handle your money: nothing is worse than going all in the first hand, loosing everything, and having to watch everyone else play the next hour...

Yes, the kids like to play with chips. Actually, black jack is quick and easy. I don't care for Texas Hold em. I like the 5 card draw better.
