So we have the regift thread, the worst present thread...how about the best?

For us I think it was my daughters food from her Uncle. velcros shut and can be cut with a plastic knife.

for me: new camera filters and a telephoto lens from DH. i specifically asked for this, and haven't really gotten to take it for a test drive yet. i'm hoping this might be a way to bring in some extra income!

not sure about DH, but like to think what i gave him is his favorite it looks like a very nice walnut end-table but is actually a large cedar lined humidor for his cigars. drawer on top and shelves on the bottom behind double doors. i felt bad b/c his desktop humidor got broken when we moved, and my dad gives him so many cigars he needs a place to keep them properly or they'll get ruined.

My best gift-Hubby saying I can stay at my part-time job for another year. I also substitute teach, so I actually have 2 part time jobs, but I love them both.

The best present?--about 5 years ago I asked my daughter and her fiance for knee pads cause I have a bad back, bad hips, and my knees get quite a workout. Fiance was a skateboarder, and he got me a pair of kneepads that skateboarders use. Now they're all beat up with 20 different kinds of paint, scars, scrapes, and the rubber ties have broken and I've wired them back on, but they still work. Everytime I put on my old clothes to work around the house, I slap these babies on.

does cash count? i'm very thankful that several of my family members decided to give us cash... after the cash i don't know... we didn't get too many concrete gifts or big ones for which we are thankful.... we actually appreciate it more knowing nobody completely overspent...
my fav out of the stuff i was given, i think may be the stuff from the Body Shop that my SIL gave me... she was telling me that she bought me the limited edition color that was selling out constantly and that both her and her mom loved it and used it constantly so they thought i would enjoy it too... aww... she can be so sweet sometimes...
after that would be all the liqour we got... we got it from MIL and from my sis and her BF and also from DH's best friend... 4 bottles of assorted stuff including champagne... lol...
we are well on our way to a well-stocked bar...

This year? A blue rug for the kitchen and silicon rubber scrapers. Both on my wish list, and My Guy told his sister and mom. So not exactly a surprise, but great.

My best present this year was... well its kinda a long story but my fiance and I are buying a new house so we agreed to not buy each other anything. Well on christmas he convinced me that I needed to go pick out a bedroom set I really wanted, and that was that.

A red scarf! I need one for the winter and my friend bought it for me.

Window installers came on 12/26 and put all new windows in my house! YEAH Hubster!!! Well, of course they don't look as good with the old metal mini blinds in them so off we went yesterday for new plantation blinds all around. Hopefully they all go up today.

Also purchased the trim needed to make my kitchen cabinets have a more custom look rather than 'quick throw up some cabinets for the renters' that the previous owner put in before he sold to us. Hubster needs to get his saw sharpened then onwards and upwards with the new trim boards.

Still to come the window installers are to be coming back and putting in the new sliding glass door we ordered at the same time - there is some slight difficulty in getting it to fit they think - as they may have to rent a concrete saw or somesuch. Will find out the concensus on Tuesday when the owner of the window company makes a personal visit. Since it is cold and wet I'm sure glad they left the old one in before deciding there was a potential problem.

While at the big box lumber store yesterday we also made arrangements for the door installer guys to come out next week and measure for all new interior and exterior doors. This ol' house really needs them and unfortunately they will all have to be custom as nothing in this house is really 'standard' sizing because of it's age. After that we are done for remodel stuff until late in '07 when it'll be time for new carpet again.

Santa was very VERY good to me this year as these were all things that he'd promised when we bought the house six years ago! See, sometimes being a patient but persistent WISHER helps. No nagging, just keep putting the same things on my list YEAR AFTER YEAR!!

Better than all of the good stuff is that there is no debt for these things as we've saved to make them happen!!

Aside from these things some of the nicer gifts were a complete set of fine china from my Dad - didn't know I wanted any but best is that they are very pretty white w/gold trim which matches the new ironstone motif I've been doing the last year.....AND a giftcard for dinner out at one of our favorite restaraunts. Think we'll go ring in the new year there.

We haven't exchanged presents with our two older kids yet and I am sure there will be a homemade item that is tops of all from one or more of the Grandkids but so far my DIL called Christmas morning (I didn't have to initiate the call) and that was great and our loaner son called and came to visit. His present was the bus ride he took and we have enjoyed him all week. He goes home tomorrow.
