Pet Saving Ideas

Do you have a gineau pig? We have 2.

Instead of buying shaved wood litter I do this:

1. Line the cage with old newspaper, ads, etc.
2. Retrieve shredded paper from the shredder here at home.
3. Put shredded paper in about 1/2 the cage for nesting.

NOTE: Check with your vet or gineau pig references before you try this. Gineau pigs will tend to eat a little of the paper and some recommend NOT using newsprint, magazine (clay and ink type) pages, etc.

I did a little test on my animals using a little of the materials before going full blown with it. YES they did eat a little and NO they did not get sick. Our two pets are happy as 'pigs'.

This is a huge saver as they would go through hundreds of $$ in storebought litter a year.

I use dirt out of my backyard instead of litter for my cat. She mostly goes outside, but when we are not there to let her out, she uses the sandbox. We don't buy the cat's food, we give her our leftovers.

I use wood pellets for a wood pellet stove as litter.. $4 for 40 lbs. When we adopted her she used Feline Pine which costs like $8 / 5 lbs at Petco or some siimilar ridiculous price. It looks the same to me and to date she's never complained about the switch :-)
