I'm wondering if I could get any advice on finding cheap eyeglasses? I completely wrecked a pair (they were 2 years old) and need a new pair ASAP. I was planning on getting a new pair after the fall & the holidays when I had a little more money, but I need a new pair ASAP.
Any tips on getting a cheap pair? I usually go to Four Eyes and use coupons or the BOGO deal, but they still end up costing a fortune. I have limited coverage from my insurance, but it's nearly always cheaper to use the discounts at 4Eyes and you can't use both. I have money in my short-term EF for this, but would have liked to be a litlte more prepared :-/ Thanks! |

Do you belong to Costco? I got a great exam there, and a great price on the glasses.

We always use ForEyes. They've got some of the best prices around, especially if you do the 2 for $99 deal. We get a regular pair and a sunglasses pair for the $99. There might be somewhere cheaper, but we haven't found it yet.

You might try "America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses". They offer 2 pairs of single vision eyeglasses plus an eye exam by an on-site optometrist for $69.95. (For more details: 1-800-two-pair -web site www.twopair.com.) I've used their services & been quite satisfied.

I just get the $5 ones at the dollar store, but I only need reading glasses and they work fine.

Just want to remind everyone who lives in a metro area to check the back of your phone book for any coupon deals on the eyeglasses.

Here is a great article on the subject issued by Consumer Reports: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/personal-finance/eyeglasses-11-06/overview/1106_eye_ov.htm?resultPageIndex=1&resultIndex=1&se archTerm=eyeglasses |

I have bought non-bifocals with magnetic sunglasses from an internet site- the name escapes me at this second- I have been vey pleased with them. I am thinking about buying a progressive bifocal pair (because I have a new digital camera and it would make life easier.) I have saved a Sears/AARP promotional card I received in the mail for $94- "includes multi-focal and no line bifocals- offer ends 123106. You must be an AARP member to use the offer.

I'm curious how anyone can buy their glasses online. Don't you need to try on the frames? When I go for glasses, I usually try 10-20 frames before I find one I like. How do you do that if shopping online?

i'm the same way, steve: frames are the worst part about getting a new pair of glasses.
