Need frugal idea for kitchen gaget thing

At my old house, I had a metal grid type of thing that hung on the wall above my stove. On it I hung my colanders, strainers, wisks...light weight awkard kitchen items, with s hooks.
I went shopping for one for my new house, and all I can find in the stores around here are ones up around $100 or more.
Any ideas on how a person could make one?? I thought once about making a wood frame and covering it with chicken wire (since this is a farm and my kitchen is done in a traditional farm style), but I am not completly sold on that idea.
Any other ideas out there of how to make one? (cheaply, of course)

get a wire cookie cooling rack from the kitchen gadgets section and hang it on the wall. it won't support a lot of weight, but it'll probably work.

I did a quick search on Ebay, they have some reasonably priced ones

I don't want a hanging pot rack, I have one of those. I want a wall mount one for utensils.

Go to Lowes, buy a piece of stock 1x material. You can probably ask for a piece of scrap say 2 feet in length. Buy a few hangers from the hardware isle, something like a small S hook or any type of hanging device. Go buy a small container of wood stain. Get any color that will match your kitchen. Then you'll need a few fasteners to screw it into the drywall. Trim up your board, paint it with the stain, evenly space your hooks, and attach it to the wall. (You may need to pick up a stud finder so that you have a secure place to fasten it to) There you go. A nice looking wall hanger for under $10.

saw this in a "Country" magazine a while back...they used it as a pot hanger but with some modifications you could use it on the wall. Use an old, preferably broken/unusable wooden ladder, cut to the size you want and use the "S" hooks on the rungs, but you could cover the ladder with chicken wire or even attach wire cooling racks to the back between the rungs and then hang it and use the "S" hooks. I used pegboard in my kitchen. If you look through Julia Child's cookbooks it's what she used in her kitchen.
Mine is unpainted and but I might paint it later. I hang my strainer, measuring spoons - anything that the kids are likely to cart off to the sandbox.
If it's good enough for Julia it's good enough for me and my kitchen gets a WORKOUT every single day.

bjl584s idea is a pretty good one. Wander about Lowes and Home Depot and give yourself some time to be creative and use your imagination! I'll bet you can come up with an inexpensive solution!

My dh took a piece of wood 1/2 in x 3in strip of wood & screwed S hooks into it. It works perfectly fine for us & gives us more drawer & counter space.

If you have an electric shaver around the house they work great for finding studs.
