Default Is this a job for Duct Tape?

Several years ago I volunteered to keep watered the garden in the median parkway of our street. The city provided a hose that would reach from my house to the garden. It gets run over by cars and trucks. But I think the tractor that drove by ground a hole into it. Anyway it has a v-shaped notch. It is a pretty goood quality hose, better than I could buy at Home Depot, but not topmost industrial.

I vagulely remember my parents patching garden hoses with kits from the hardware store. I think the kit allowed the leaky section to be cut out then the ends reconnected. But I also remember that repaired hoses seems to always leak anyway.

What do you recommend to repair the hose? I think it is unlikely it would get run over again in just the same way or in the same spot. I think many more years could be gotten from the hose if I can make a satisfactory repair.

duct tape on hose lets it spray out the edges of the tape..least if my attempt is an example....
thogh it works reasonably well, works well enough that I am not buying a new hose.....

Duct tape is an option. Take a piece of rubber and tape it over the whole. Repair kit could make a female and male hose end on each side of where the present hole is now. Look for the repair kits in your local hardware.

If after repair options you are losing a lot of water it may be time to get a new hose.

Remember Macgyver!? I think there was a reason why he always carried a half-used roll of Duct Tape with him. It's so useful.

I think PrincessPerky is right about leaks. Eventually the sticky adhesive will wear away and the water will eventually get through. This has always happened to me. Get a hose repair kit if it's less than getting a new hose - which may go through the same Wear & Tear process.

Here's a good explanation of hose repair:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2982_repair-garden-hose.html

Just go to http://www.homedepot.com and search on SKU 685858. At $2.99, it'll be much more durable than duct tape.
