Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
I dry outside even if there is snow. They still dry as long as the sun is out. I also can hang clothes in the basement to dry-I have done that several times this summer when it was raining outside. I also have a wooden clothes rack that I use inside, or move to the back deck.
Just don't have stuff from a ceiling fan. I did that once and forgot and flipped on the fan. A friend of mine hung a wet jacket (from rain) to dry from her fan (while it was off) and the weight of it pulled the fan down off the ceiling.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
Oh & another thought on how much you save. When I was an apartment dweller, if you go to the laundrymat you are paying atleast $1 a load to dry, so depending on how much you have to dry it can make a difference as well. Plus time, so you aren't sitting @ a laundrymat pacing waiting for the buzzers to go off.
My mom used to hang everything in our bathroom closet to avoid the costs of drying clothes.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
I have a line on a pulley that i can stand on the deck and hang clothes. I got an energy efficient washer and dryer and have lined dry since. My husband has bad allergies and it bothered him during different times of the year.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
I've been drying our clothes on a hanging rack in the basement for the last 6 months, and our gas bill (budget billing) has gone down $12 per month.

I've been line drying my clothes in the basement, and I was wondering what you do to keep them from getting so stiff? I don't mind the clothes so much, but I had having hard scratchy towels!

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
Line drying clothes is difficult in FL. The humidity is a big problem.

The get stiff from lack of movement (wind). Running a fan would help the problem some, but defeat the purpose as it would use electricity. Do you have a window you could open some on days when the weather is fairly decent? Today, although it is winter, its almost 60 and windy outside. For me to open a basement window would get in some fresh air. However last week when it was in the teens, I would not have dared to do so.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
To get the stiffness out of jeans and towel, I throw them in the dryer for 5 minutes to fluff them up.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
It's a beautiful January day here in WI, since it's sunny & windy I'm going to hang some wash out to dry.
Dh doesn't like me line drying period, but one must do what one must do when you have 1 income, so since he's working I'm a line drying!

Hey, I'm in WI as well, Wood County actually. Our day is incredible for WI weather. I think they call this balmy! I went to the laundry mat last night to dry clothes because I have to pack them for our trip east.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
Yesterday I did 5 loads, lots, cause I did the bedding including comforters. I hang it all outside to dry. It was sunny and windy. Because I have only 1 set for each bed, I had to take it off (it was almost dty) and fluff it in the dryer for about 5 min. I still have some jeans and other big items hanging from yesterday. Today the weather is sunny too. I didn't hang the socks tho, I just put them in the dryer lay there untill I have socks and undies from all loads, different colors. And then when I was fluffing up the bedding(3 loads). It got almost dry and I just hung it in the bathroom.

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
While building our house we lived in a 5th wheel trailer for 10 months on our property and I had our old washer outside. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillys but I didnt care because I wasent about to spend the money at the laundrymat. I hung everything outside when it was nice on a line hunging between two trees and inside the trailer when it was cold. It was hiliarious. But now that I have a laundry room I use the drier. And I hang things on a rack in my laundry room above the washer that I dont want to put in the drier. If your house is small or doesnt have a laundry room I would get one of those rolling hanging racks on wheels. That way you could move it around to the rooms that were warmest. and use it for hanging coats when company came or for their clothes if you didnt have an extra closet. I believe they come apart easily too for storage. hth

Re: Line Drying Clothes.... Year Round?
I have a fan in my laundry room on top of our freezer blowing for 2 reasons. I can hang my clothes on the cabinets there and put socks and such on top of the freezer in front of the fan..
2) The fan helps circulate the heat throughout the house. My bill has been cut IN HALF!!

Now is everything on the same floor? Just curious about the heating bill being reduced.
