I bought GMC a set of black sheets, after a year (little more) of using them, every other week...sometimes more, there is hardly any wear.
[I also have for his bed a set I used when I was a kid, only the bottom sheet needed replaced...the old one will be made into a pillow case ]Anyway I bought JC a set of pinky princess sheets last..err month maybe? the second time I washed them I saw pilling, which has only gotton worse. what should I look for to find the first set (I no longer have any packing/information on them, pitched it) quality, not the second? they both cost the same... |

Maybe this will help... http://ask.yahoo.com/20020528.html In a nutshell, thread-count is probably what most people would say in response to your question, however, that is not really the answer. A good name and quality materials (hence the good name) is what will distinguish one set of linens from another, much more so than thread count alone. Some of the cheapest junk I've ever seen had (at least supposed) high thread count. |

We use flannel in the winter and cotton in the summer. I have gotten my last few sets at Target and have been real happy....the current cotten set I use is a 400 thread count and was marked down to $35 for king sized. They are on their second year...(I use the same set all summer...wash them, line dry and put them back on the bed) and they are still like new.
My flannel sheets are on year 3 and still going strong...got them on sale for $20 king size...but they are dried in the dryer, since I dont have the nice warm sun to do it. |

We use cotton or t-shirt sheets in the summer and fall and flannel in the winter. We've gotten them at Penney and Target primarily. We also have a couple of sets we ordered from Domestications years ago. I think our flannel sheets were about $20 for each set (and that's for a king bed). They all hold up just fine. We don't really see the need to spend a small fortune for sheets. The cheap ones are comfortable and hold up very well. We have sets that we've had for 12 years since we got our king bed and they are still in perfect shape.

I needed sheets and didn't want to spend a fortune so I bought some super NICE sheets at ecost.com. They are absolutely luxurious and cost a fraction what they would have on clearance at any store.
anyway, I am still proud of that find. I only buy sheets like once every few years or so it seems, but these should really last... I really don't remember but it was around $30-$40 for a Cali King, for some very high-end quality. I have not found much on ecost since, so I Don't know if I lucked out or what. But check it out. |

I use Satin Sheets, much softer, and I buy them on sale for around 20.00 a queen set. They last approximately a year before they pill.

We use cotton sheets all year round. I would like to use flannel in the cold but the wife does not like them. We wait for White Sales when we have to buy but it has been a few years now.
I am willing to pay for a higher quality as I feel they hold up better and they have a nicer "feel" to them. |

Anna's Linens is a great suggestion. I am not sure if I have ever been but I keep getting ads in the mail. I keep thinking dang - what good prices!

You should sure check it out. They have more than just linens. They have some really cool decorative pillows and stuff for your bathroom! I always threw my flyers away, but we really needed new sheets and funds were a bit low, I decided to take a chance. I'll definitely be going back.

some of my best sheets came from a place in the next town over: the sheets are seconds and aren't packaged up, you just dig in a bin and try to find some that match! nice thing was you paid by the pound... anyways, the ralph lauren sheets i got from there over 10 years ago for my twin sized bed were great and lasted wonderfully. they were like a soft comfy chambray shirt: sturdy and thick but super soft. perfect sheets in my world.
my criteria for sheets: cotton only, can't stand a poly blend it makes my skin itch. 400 thread count or higher, and a sateen finish. don't like flannel/tee-shirt/satin shiney sheets. i find the sateen finish feels softer than a non-sateen finish in the same thread count and i have yet to have mine pill up. also, i prefer 'combed cotton' (egyptian is best, other will do!), or 'long fiber' cotton. seems to make the sheets a little more sturdy. |

The best sheets I bought came from a 2nd hand/flea market store years ago-in the early 80's. No stains or rips. I got several sets at around $5 a set. Later I mentioned my find to a co-worker (I also got some kitchen items from the same booth). She asked me the booth number-I looked at my ticket and told her and she laughed. It was her mother in laws booth-she had downsized, moved into town and sold her extra's at a booth there. I am still using the sheets, and the crockpot.
