Okay, there was this dive of a store, it got all the toss outs from the big name stores, but not like Ross, I mean bottom of the barrel. I miss it, it closed years ago. Anyway, none of the sheets in there were even in bags or wrapping anymore. They were folded and tied in cheep twine and sorted by size. When I moved and purchased a queen bed ($300.00 a pillow top and a steal of a deal) I needed sheets. My room mate and I went to this place and I just picked up some white sheets, no big deal. Didn't even think anything about it. I put these sheets on my bed and feel in love with them! They were the best! I had no idea what I had bought and the tags were no help. For years I searched, but alas...I had no idea what I had bought! They were so soft and comfty. And they just seemed to get better with each wash! I refused to us another set I had bought at Wal-mart for more than the days it took me to get the other set washed! The fitted sheet finally started to thin in the middle where I slept. There was a little whole and I really knew I should mend it..but I didn't and then one night I turned down the covers and ....riiiiiip! I just stared...my all time favorite sheets were ruined!! I worried I'd never sleep in comfort again!
Then I started the hunt....hunting...hunting. I knew the sheets had come from a mall kind of store. So I went there...finally after illlegally opening a few packages and 'feeling' the material I found them!...and wanted to cry! They were (at least I think) 1000 count egyptian cotton sheets! The set was over $200!! There was no way I was going to pay that kind of price! (The trick is they have to prewashed, the washing makes them softer, it took me a while to get that.) So I hit the TJ Max stores and the ROSS stores and hunt for finds in the mall casts offs. It's reall hit or mis and I generall have to spend 40-60 for a set and rearly can I find 1000 count, generally its 600, but hey to me it's better than the 120 count at Wal-mart.
It's also a matter of preference. Some people like 'crisp' sheets, some (like me) like 'soft' sheets. Some like flannel, (I did in college), and some like silky (sorry not my cup of tea, I slid around in bed to much, knowing me I'd fall out and hit my head!) So each is going to prefere a different type of material to suite their needs.
Also, we still have lots of sheets from when I was kid too...I think the old saying 'They don't make them like they use to.' Applies here. Especially when dealing with kids sheets. They just are not made to last. I've also noticed that flannel tends to wear quickly.
Okay...I've rambled enough!
Oh, ps, ROSS & TJ Max are also great places for things like table clothes, place matts, napkins, towels, blankets, and comforters. I don't like buying clothes there, but I go for the above mentioned stuff.
