Re: Banks and checks. My bank actually provide the checks for free. As long as you only order one box at a time, the plain, blue checks are free of charge! Check to see if you can find a bank that gives you the checks! (I live in Pittsburgh and my bank named the ball park of the Pirates. Don't know if I'm allowed to give the name!!!!)

Along the same lines, you should never pay for the name address stickers for envelopes. You can get tons of them sent to your if you make a small donation to one charity. I made $5.00 donation about 5 years ago to a charity, and apparently they shared my name with all kinds of other charities. Now I get the address labels all the time for free.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I should share my experience.

My bank gives free checks to people over 55 years old, but they don't do it automatically. My husband was 56 before I found out about it. I had to go into the bank and make a switch. I probably could have called, but I was in the bank any way. So, call your bank and find out if they have senior checking accounts. We also get interest earning without a minimum amount in the senior program.
