Would you dress yourself or your kids in thrift store clothing?

I certainly would! Just last week, I saved $80 on two items... a pair of brand new Lane Bryant jeans for me and a pair of Abercrombie and Fitch shorts for my husband. My total purchase price (because Wednesdays are 50% off clothes) was FOUR dollars.

I dont mind buy at thrift store, but sometimes their price is not that low in my town, I could find clearence clothes at Kohl's for almost the same price as those in my neighbourhood goodwill store. Oh, I do not buy shoes, socks, and underwear from thrift store or yardsale, just feel bad about them.

We do it every day. Thrift store clothes are some of the best!

I buy more than half of my 4-year-old's clothes on ebay or from thrift stores, rummage sales, and estate sales. My husband has some very nifty Ralph Lauren cords and many of my favorite professional clothes are from used
clothing stores.
I also buy stuff for my mom--especially from estate sales, and especially if they were rich people! I wash everything, but this is a tremendous savings.
I'm with the folks though, that draw the line at underwear, socks, shoes, etc.
Church rummage sales are the best!

I have four kids and I'm a regular second hand shopper. I tend to be picky about the clothes and make sure they are in good repair with no stains. For my youngest two children (ages 4 and 7) I look for things that are a size or two up and keep them stored in boxes as they grow in and out of clothes which is super fast!

Both of them regularly get compliments on their clothes. Both love adorable dresses and we have a vast supply. I often resell on the eBay also to recoup my costs.

I also purchase second hand clothing to wear for work. Often I've seen the same or similar item at the mall costing an arm and a leg!

I do, my mother volunteers at the local hospital thrift store and she's always on the look out for good use clothes. Not only for her but me as well. A few weeks ago, I found a brand new pair of Croc's for $6 (they usually run between $30-$40). And when mom gets tired of the clothes she gets, she gives them to me to go through. If I don't find anything, I give them to my MIL and her sister to go through.

I love to shop at thrift stores (and I'm including things like the 2nd hand clothes sold at church/ school fundraisers) The problem is that I seldom have any success in finding things for myself, or for the teenaged girls in my house. Most of the times when I find things in our sizes, they're very tired or dated. However, I have better results in shopping thrift for my 8 yr old DD, particularly when it comes to jeans. Her tall and slim proportions make it very difficult to find pants that fit her properly - if I buy thrift store jeans at $3 or less, it's not a huge loss if they don't fit. And sometimes, I turn them into capris or skirts if they're too short. And if they really fit badly or she just doesn't like them, I turn them into jeans handbags, and sell them at a profit.

I never thought DH would be caught dead in thrift store clothes, until he started getting clothes from an out-of-town friend whose wife works in a thrift store.

I'd admit. I didn't mind accepting friends' or relatives cast-offs but I was pretty squeamish about buying second hand clothes until a few years ago. A clothing mishap at a school fundraiser forced me to shop for an emergency change of clothes - then I realized that it wasn't going to scar me for life! I've been hooked ever since.

I draw the line at shoes and intimate apparel!

I won’t buy shoes from thrift stores but definitely scour them for dress shirts, jackets, baby clothes, and purses. I once found a beautiful Vera Wang at the thrift store in Castro’s district, SF the other day.

I just took a survey in my closet. I have 41 blouses. 12 are from resale stores, mostly Salvation Army. 14 are more than 10 years old, generally bought on BIG clearance and 2 were gifts.

I think I have gotten GREAT value from over 66% of my tops.

Yes. I used to dress from consignment shops, but my spouse does not agree with it, so I no longer do it.

Most people can save money this way. I would like to consign some clothes right now, to make a little extra cash.

It is icky to me. There are some things that really skeeve me out, and used clothing is one of them. Clothes from a friend or family member I can do, but from a stranger reaaaly grosses me out. I kind of have to agree with Koppur! My mom and my aunt used to try and get me to shop at thrift stores... I just cant do it. I dont mind jewlery! But shoes and clothes and kitchenware - eww!! I'll shop at Target, Marshals, TJ Max - but no used clothing from who knows where!!!!

Yes! Thrift stores are AWESOME!! It's amazing the types of deals you can find. Yes, you have to look hard, but you can find great deals on name brand clothing...and this is perfect, especially when children are growing so fast that you have to buy new clothes every couple of months!

I personally do not see anything wrong with gently used clothing. SAVING MONEY!!

I think our current wardrobe for the kids is 100% used. I have no problem with that.

I am usually able to find gently used items for the following prices:

T-shirts: .25-$2
Collared polo shirts- $2-$3
Jeans- $3-$6
shorts- $1-$2

I never buy things that look too used at all.

Dh gets a lot used too.

It is easier to find good quality used clothing for younger children and babies. Once your kids are in jr. clothing, it get much harder, and the condition of the clothes is not as good.

Thrift clothing is pretty much all I wear. I never follow with current trends in fashion I always do my own thing and that makes shopping at thrift stores easy. I only buy clothing in stores that are really inexpensive or stuff on ebay. I do buy nice bras and underwear though, that's where I splurge because I don't want to buy used undies or bras yuck!
