Question Do you think 10 for $10 is a Good Deal?

I am sure this deal is common for all Store Sales around the Country. I remember reading somewhere about the Grocery store trick of buying something that is on Sale for a $1 but usually costs .96 cents.

What do you think?

I think they are good for Chips...since those are usually $1.60 something...but that is the only thing I can think of right now...

I think it depends on the item. Your example of chips which cost more than a dollar normally would be a good deal. If you could use a coupon for something that is 10 for $10 even better. Our stores let you only by what you want, not the whole ten items. Hopefully yours does as well.

You do have to watch them carefully. One of our local stores has 10 for $10 all the time. Sometimes it's no deal--the item was already around $1 anyway. Sometimes it's an awesome deal.

Look closely and know what an item "should" cost. This is where a price book or the like comes in handy.

I think it is not a good deal for chips, because I think it just encourages people to eat them, and they are junk. Sorry

rob62521 - yes we are allowed to purchase as many as we want.

taking_charge that actually brings up another point...why is Junk food so cheap and Good food more expensive? I am speaking in General...I am sure some health foods are cheap, but the same goes...you have to look for the Store Sales/Coupons.

Just like you never hear of people addicted to fruit! Not that they talk about being addicted to cheetos, but people are. Good question, though

My son is addicted to cucumbers. He can eat cucumber salad like 5 times a day, and my daugher is addicted to tomatoes. I would go to my garden, collect 5-6 tomatoes a day, she is the one who would it them all. As for chips, I never buy any. Whenever dh would buy it, I tell him to eat it outside and don't show it to kids, or just leave a few pieces and that's it, or I will just throw them away. And I don't care if he paid 2-3 $$ for them, health is more important.

i recently quit at a grocery store, but it is true for some things.
for instance, the 10 for 10 dollars on things like the generic soda is where they get you. at the store i worked at, it is normally .88/ 6 pack. they made the sale 11/$10 making it $1.10!
on the other hand, they had chef boy r d on sale $10/10, and it is normally close to $2.00.
just think wisely and make sure you know your prices on the normal stuff you buy.

One of our stores does 10 for 10 and a lot of time you are saving a little money, you can buy as many or as few as you want. It is at our higher priced grocery store... so I have to be aware of what the price is at our lower priced grocery store ( which is closer to home, saves gas) and see if there is a savings.
This week Kens Dressing is also 10 for 10... If my memory serves me right... that will end up being a savings of about 29 cents apiece on the salad dressing and this week, cool whip is 10 for 10...another savings of about 39 cents a piece .. You just have to be aware of regular prices.

I never use 10 of anything, it would just get stale.

Actually the 11 for $10 is more like 94 cents a piece.

The Albertsons where I live offers something similar all the time - but they have a variety of products that you can buy to make up the 10 items. For instance at the beginning of the year, they had the big tubs of Quaker Oats Cereal, the 1/2 gallons of Dole Juice, some other thngs - lol, those were the ones I was interested in. So I stocked up on the Quaker Oats, regular, not quick cook, because they are really healthy. I wanted the juice too, but they were out of the oats and I had to get a rain check, and though things would just get too complicated after a few weeks had gone by. And you don't actually have to buy 10 here. I just bought 4 of the Oatmeal.

Good going Get For Free on teaching your children how to eat right. I actually think this is one of the biggest problems the world faces - with all the junk food and take out fat, out there. I have probably a worse problem that most - it is my worst problem.

I live in an area where there is literally a grocery store on every corner. Each of them runs 10 for $10 specials every week. My experience has been that only a few of the items are legitimate deals. The other items are within a few cents of their regular price and sometimes, unbelievably, even more than regular price.

Also, on items for which you typically see coupons, the store will run the 10 for $10 sale up to a week before the coupon comes out. Usually, waiting for the coupon, even if 10 for $10 sale expires, almost always leads to better deal.

I pay no attention to this sales tactic. I can't think of anything that I want to buy 10 of so I just ignore it most of the time. I am more enamored with BOGO's.

I have found that often the ten items were available at a cheaper price somewhere else that week

I often find that it is a list of things I would only buy oin sale..meaning I would be better off not knowing about the sale and not buying the chips...

About 1 yr ago I went shopping with my sister and bought 2 boxes of sugar free, natural juice flavor ice, for a 10/$10 price. My dd cant tell the difference. I purchased 1 box of 2 different flavors, just to see if she would like them, to my surprise, she loves them. She gets very hyper and disobedient when she has sugar and/or caffeine, so I have to watch her sugar intake, and she knows this. (always asks me how much sugar is in different things she eats and drinks). I didnt know to even look for the sugar free ones, didnt know there was such a thing, until I seen it in the 10/$10 sale. To me, that was worth it.

This is a common tactic of the drug store chains like Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and CVS. Typically, what they have on sale "10 for" is available everyday at a lower price from Wal-Mart, Dollar General, or other discount store. They also seem to like to do this with "2 for"; especially, it seems, with laundry detergent. Walgreens is offering 'All' detergent, 100oz, 2 for $9.99 right now. It costs 4.37 per at Wal-Mart everyday.
