Default Cheap Weekend Activities

Does anyone have any good ideas for a relatively cheap weekend activities? We have some friends coming to visit and I don't know how much we're going to have to entertain them, so I'm trying to get some good ideas down just in case.

If the weather is appropriate, a nice picnic lunch or dinner outdoors is enjoyable.
Sometimes cities have free concerts and other events going on. You might have to hunt for them, but I know some of the ones around here are free or low-cost.

Depending on where you live, a visit to a state or national park for a day can be a great outing. We have a few local museums nearby that are a great bargain where we often take guests that come to visit.

If they are from a different part of the country, just a car drive to local scenic spots can be nice. We also have a college nearby that always has events going for free or at very low prices.

Most cities have tourism guides which list activities, entertainment and and sites. They usually include an events calendar and can usually be obtained free of charge either from your cities visitor center or local hotels/motels. Many list the price of a particular attraction or event and if not they usually have phone numbers so you can call and check prices before going just to find out it is too expensive.
