The best way I've found is to wait until promotions come along and take advantge of the free iTunes they give away. pepsi had a big one in 2005 and it appears that Coke will have a big one later this year. There are quite a few free iTune offers that come through during the year.

Although I'm a huge Mac fan, have an iPod, and use iTunes regularly....
I now prefer emusic.com. It's straight MP3, so no DRM. Instead, their business model consists of, well, the honor system, and that even if it becomes freely-distributed, it makes for good advertisment. This sort of works well for them because emusic primarily offers indies and lesser knowns. However, if your tastes are not mainstream (like mine), especially if you plan to stray from iPod's beaten path, then this is a good way to go. |
