PuppyPal,
Good for you. I hate it when judgemental and crochety people try hamper us.
This story really inspires me.When I was in CA, I helped a friend get a roll-top desk and I myself acquired the most beautiful dining table and coffee table. The latter had a black glass top. It was the kind you will find in posh hotel foyer/lounges!!
We moved and DH threw it out.
Today guess what i found near the curb: One of the prettiest brown bunnies. It ran away before i could do anything. Pity !!!

I love curbside treasures! I always pick up magazines and books for decoupaging. Clothing is always a fun find, especially when I get compliments. I once found a $60 Swiss Army knife, I'm sure that wasn't meant to be.LOL

I've scored plenty of furniture. The night I found my kitchen table I was wishing for one earlier.LOL

I have quite the chair collection. I found some nice metal ones for my porch, it was hell trying to fit them in the small car I have at the time.LOL My coffee tables were curbside treasures.

I found my grill, a retro harvest yellow charcoal grill. I was with my dad and he made me knock on the door. The owner said of course and he's had it for over 30 years! I bet it was kept in the garage, no rust at all.

My dad is a handyman on the side. His ladies have taken care of me. I've recieved a washer, 2 TVs, a steamer trunk a loveseat. He helped a friend move, on their way, they delieved a coach and a loveseat.

I can't wait until I get my Scion xB, I'll be ack in business with curbside treasures.

I'm sorry this is off topic but when you use the term "DH" what does it mean?

When visiting my parents recently I commented that their "pile" out on the footpath for the kerbside cleanup was very small.

In reply they listed off all the items they had put out. FRom a list of 10 plus medium to large items there were just two things left.

Their junk must have been good to others.

Brenda, I didn't know what they were saying either. A few days ago, a married female member of the forum, used bf, which I thought was boyfriend. It was best friend. I also took gf for girlfriend, when it meant grandfather.

I saw a nice one person chair couch, looked in great shape, a 3 person couch in good shape and a nice table. I could have used them, but my small 2 seater car can hold nothing.

Has anyone found a good way of getting rid of furniture when it can't be put out on the kerbside?

Give to goodwill the thirftstore or checkout freecycle in your town.
Some of these places will even come and take off your hand.

Talking Re: Ever rescued anything from the Curbside?

I thought everyone curb-crawled. I lived in a rural town of 5000 for 20 years. Everything on the curb was fair game. An acquaintance of mine got thick styrofoam panels to use to block the cellar windows in an old farm house in the winter. In the town i live in now, there is a town pickup every 4 months. EVERYBODY puts the stuff out a day or two ahead so that people have a chance to come by and take the stuff they can use. If you live near a college campus, the ONLY time to furniture shop is right after finals!!! lynclarke

Several years ago on my way to Bible study, I arrived at the apartment complex and a old wooden highchair was sitting out by the dumpster in the rain with a trash bag of newspapers in the seat. As it turns out, the highchair I rescued is an antique and I have been offered as much as $375 for it by someone looking to buy our house last year.

Last week a neighbor was getting rid of a BodyFit exercycle--they just had it sittin gon the curb with a sign "Free". My husband is going to be working in another city for a few months and we will be getting him a small apartment for less money than what he'll get for the temporary assignment. So this FREE perfectly good 1 year old-hardly used exercycle will keep DH healthy and save the cost of a gym membership! And I offered a few hours of free babysitting while they moved across town since we got the bike! She was thrilled!

My husband and I do it all the time. Not to mention picking up goodies off the side of the road too! (Safety first, of course!!)

No, but I stole a dog once. It was at a house next to an old house we had converted into an office. The people kept the puppy tied up all day on shoelaces tied together. It had no food and water and it cried all day.
The 2nd day, I stole that puppy, took it home, and washed 4,813 fleas off of it, it was eaten up! Then I found a good home for it!

DH has gone to the dumps and ended up coming back with things other people were about to dump, like bicycles and hundreds of brand new pens and other new office supplies.
