Dido - I am in PA also. I also read the same article, I am guessing that we have the same electric co (PP&L)? I hope our rates dont go up tooo much. Do you use ac at all? Just curious since your bill is low. I am always looking for ways to reduce my consumption.
Yes, PP&L (I'm in Bethlehem). I use A/C, but just two window units. The downstairs, where I spend most of my hours, and the dog spends 24/7, has one window unit running about 16-18 hours/day at the moment. The upstairs bedroom where I sleep has a window unit which I set at 85 during the day, so it rarely turns on, and then go and set for 78 half an hour before bed and for 82 while I am sleeping, so that unit is running maybe 2-3 hours a day. I have ceiling fans running 24/7 in every room, and the spare bedroom where one of the cats lives also has a fan and windows open on all sides. I keep the shades pulled and I have awnings over all my windows, and the house is pretty small--1166 sf.

I don't know how insulation affects cooling costs--I always associate it with heating costs--but I do know that my attic is pretty well insulated, too.

I am using close to 70 kwh per day now, with this heat wave. It use to cool off outside at night, but it hasn't done that in about 2 weeks.

Dido - I am in Bethlehem also! We have central air and I try to shut it off during the day, but the past couple of weeks it was very hot, therefore I didnt shut it off at all. This is actually the first day in a while that I was able to open up my windows and take advantage of the nice breeze outside.

Hey banana! Do you have any connection with the Banana Factory? (your nickname made me wonder). Yeah, I used my A/C more the past couple of weeks too. Not opening my windows too much yet--I live close enough to Musikfest that I can hear the concerts at Riverplace really well from my front porch. But I don't *like* the kind of music they play at that venue, so I'm shutting myself in as much as possible at the moment!

I just recieved my electric bill. I thought it would be higher for all the A/C usage.

I live in a very small <1,000 sq ft. apartment and my bill was $65, the highest for the year!

It is 96 right now at almost 6 pm. I am letting both a/c's run full blast, I just can't stand the heat! I have never seen it this bad here in the mountains!!

With this crazy heat wave we've been having (Last week was areound 100, heat index was higher) We've had the A/C on most days, but turn it off at night when it's gotten cooler. (We have a dog now, and don't want to her to fry while we are at work). It looks like the Gas & Electric Bill averages out to about $2/day with running the A/C frequently, but keeping lights, tv, etc. off if we don't need them.

PS, our A/C is just one room unit, in the bedroom, where the dog's crate is. Our apartment is about 670 square feet, a small 2BR apartment.

Dido - No relation to the Banana Factory, lol. Banana was my nickname as a kid and it sorta stuck with family. We went to Musikfest last night and heard KC's Boogie Blast. We had an awesome time! I wish I lived close enough to walk to Musikfest I am jealous!

We are having beautiful weather here, all my windows are open there is a nice breeze and I am loving it! Hope this type of weather sticks around a while!

I've been to Musikfest before too -- my boyfriend did a co-op there for 2 semesters. We're about an hour and a half away now.

Musikfest is more fun when you choose to go there as opposed to having the concerts foist upon you. I knew when I bought this house last fall that parking on Musikfest weekends would be a hassle. No one warned me that I'd have such good audio reception of one of the sites from my living room and front porch--and at half a mile away, I didn't expect to hear it as loudly as I do. It would bother me less, I'm sure, if the music was more to my taste--but given my taste, that's unlikely. And it seems that the less the music is to my taste, the louder they crank it up. The heavy metal and rap concert evenings were the loudest!

I'm feeling like Scrooge in summer--Bah, humbug!

August's bill was $171.78. Received Sept's bill today; amount owed is $225.46.

What a difference a week makes! Last week in the 90's and 80's at night; this week 70's and 60's at night.

It's getting down into the 50s at night--at least at the moment. Too much of August remains for me to expect this to last, but it's bliss while it does!

Just got my bill, and it was $153. At least it's less than I expected. I was prepared to pay $200, because those hot days.
