Lyn, you pay the same amount for electricity that I do. It is approx. .091 cents per kilwatt hour. I am expecting my bill to be over $160 this month!

as far as the light bill goes, I got it down to $100 per month for a house that is about 1300 square feet. but that was with me constantly saying Shut off that light! and we turned everything off when not using it. and no air was being used. Last month the bill was 195 and this month it is 185. I got it back down a little still using air. still working on it! I come home from work at night and they have every light in the house on! I just about scream! I wish I could get it down more but it is hard. I only wash what I need, I do run the dishwasher probably too much though.

We are still having our heat wave here and I read the meter every day. It has been the highest this past week (kph) that it has been all year.

Was paying $256/mo year round (based on the ave. of our last year's usage), but the price just went up to $282.mo for the next 11 months. Darn oil prices! We pay on a budget plan with the Utility Co. so we don't experience sticker shock in the winter. Our utilities cover water, electric, sanitation, etc..

I'm expecting my electric bill any day now. I am guessing it will be around $110-$120. Let's see if I am right, since I have been reading my meter almost daily now.

My bill doesn't come til about the 20th of the month. I have read the meter everyday, so i expect the bill to be around $160-$180, which is over my budget of $160. It is just so hot outside!

Well, lets look at it this way, at least we are getting something for our money. When we pay interest on credit cards (or anything) we are getting zilch for our money.

I can't imagine a bill for only 224 kilowatts. You are right, banana, even if i had the heat or a/c turned off, did no cooking, I could not get it that low. I used 67 kilowatts in the past 24 hours, that is more than $6 worth of electricity.

This question is for ImaSaver......I stumbled upon this site and read through al the electric posts, which I found quite interesting.
But the thing I wanted to know more about was a device you referrred to - something like the kilowat device? It sounded like you coudl measure electric consumptioin? Can you fill me (and everyone else) in on this? Where would you buy one? Many thanks in advance. |

I just got my electric bill--highest of the year so far, of course. In July, I used 562 KWH, at 10.6 cents per KWH for a bill of $59.37. (Our electric rate here in PA is set articifically low after the deregulation that occurred 10 years ago; rate caps are due to come off by 2009 or 2010, and the expected rate increase is substantial. They're saying 20-30%, but the paper just ran an article after another community nearby that already had the rate caps removed and their rates are up about 200-300%. But that's because the company paid for electricity in advance and did so right after a hurricane when the rates were inflated. My power company has a proposal in for comment right now where they propose buying their power for the next several years in 6 purchases made over 3 years to spread out any costs and decrease the probability of the same thing happening here.
My company also gives me a chart with my monthly average, which was 19 KWH/day last month. That's more than double the average of the other months on the chart! (I don't have a complete years' worth of data here yet since I moved into this house last Nov. 1) |

Actually, I was rather upset with myself because last months kilowatt usage was 183. I am single, and use a fan rather than an air conditioner. I do have fluorescent bulbs in most of the lamps throughout the house, and work during the day Mon-Fri - so am not using electricity then. I did buy a highly rated Energy Saver refrigerator several years back, which probably cut my electric bill in half from the nearly 30 year old frig that I had previously. Ditto Energy Saver washing machine, and I line dry all my laundry. On the bad side, I do leave my television on all night while I sleep.
Oh, I do occasionally cook, but not really that often, and use the microwave. The rate here is 6.7 cents for the first 200 kws and 7.8 cents over 200. |

I just received my electric bill. Not too bad for 33 days I used 1051 kwh for running the central air, dehumidifier in the basement and an attic fan. My bill total is $100.66.
Dido - I am in PA also. I also read the same article, I am guessing that we have the same electric co (PP&L)? I hope our rates dont go up tooo much. Do you use ac at all? Just curious since your bill is low. I am always looking for ways to reduce my consumption. |
