Default Re: yard sales... what have you bought?

I always buy my daughters clothes from yard sales. I specially love the multi family garage sale or Church sales where they have a mass of clothes for .50 or .25 cents each. All the deals are in digging deep through the pile and find good brand name stuff without any stains/tears/ buttons missing/zippers not working. You get good with practice, earlier I would buy some thing and them come home to find a hole/tear. Take your time and make sure what you are buying won't go in trash once you reach home.
My mentor was my neighbor who taught me how to garage sale. She was and is a Pro. She buys stuff from garage sales and sells them on e-bay. She has an eye for stuff like that...Barbies from 1960's, Peanuts memorabilia etc etc.
To quote Forrest Gump Yard sales are like box of chocolates, you are never sure what you gonna get .

It really does pay to dig deep.
I was going though a box of craft supplies at a yard sale once and
down at the bottom of the box was an old yellow Fiesta bowl in great condition! , It is worth much more than the dollar I paid for it.
It was late too as far as sales go. Probably around 11 AM. If that bowl had been on display it would have sold earlier to someone who knew old Fiesta is valuable.
Tomorrow is Saturday... I'll be out the door early and see if any treasures
are to be found!

We are always buying clothes for the kids! My aunt who goes rummaging every week with a lil ol' lady she cares for has found a ton of name brand clothes (oshkosh, gymboree, disney) for .25!!! Though that's all she'll spend. But she found some cute disney sweatshirts for winter for .25! Hello! I wish we could find rummages with nice stuff who are trying to get rid of it for that little. Though I do try to stick to under $1 for most things.

I've found a few cute outfits that were worn for pics for $1-2 a set wich is on the high side for rummaging IMO but if they are in nearly new shape why not??

We found a Little Tykes picnic table a few weeks ago for $8, it was pretty new & the colors were bright like it just came out of the box.

My dh found a rummage where they had like 4 odd peices of clothes in my dd's size for .50!

Alas my dh's schedule has rotated to the other end of the week so I don't know that I'll do much more rummaging this season/year. Unless we bump into a few in September.

yep, that's definately true although it's something i need to work on....sometimes i get carried away and buy things that aren't in the best of shape.... i also don't always have the patience to dig through everything, although i notice that if the price is good and the sellers are reasonable i'm more willing to dig...
i agree with forrest gump too... you never know what you will find...

lol...i wish we could find things that cheap too although we don't need baby clothes just yet my mom is buying for her nieces baby girl and my sister is buying for her expectant son... usually she tries to keep it to a $1 an outfit unless there is something really nice or cute... good for your DH... my DH goes with me and it's nice that we can share this on weekends... we pack our cooler and off we go... that's too bad about his schedule... there are more yard sales in summer (due to moving) but we usually find at least one or two because the weather here is temperate year round...

whopee.... i feel like we did great yesterday... although maybe i'm just giving into my desire for pretty (and affordable) things...

$1 black converse shoes
0.50 chocolate brown roxy slippers aka flip flops (my other 50 cent slippers are falling apart)
$1 two workout DVD's, pilates and abs/ball workout
0.50 black fleece gloves for next trip somewhere colder than 70 degress (lol, we have thin blood)...
$1 collapsible headphones (for DH to use at work/gym/travel, etc.)...
$1 my mom bought a small dark grayish blue Coach purse which she's letting me use =)

and we got some free stuff (gas for a weed eater, free crack filler for concrete walkways (outside our townhouse), free weed eater, free gas can... there was a very generous family giving them away because you can't take them on the airlines when you move away from hawaii....

and most amazing of all...
for $1 each... 2 fur stoles, a fur jacket, and a damaged fur coat...
they aren't in great condition because they got rained on but i'm happy as a clam...
the two stoles (light and dark brown) are musty but still beautiful... the chocolate brown russian squirrel jacket has some rips at the seams but is repairable... unfortunately the muskrat coat is in worse condition than i originally thought.... i'm rather sad over this as the seller told me she paid around $800 for it new in the 80's... very unfortunate... she suggested using one of larger, more interesting areas of intact fur to make a pillow...
i believe i'll post and gather some suggestions from everybody on what i should do... =)
still, all in all, i was very happy... that's one of the best finds i've ever had...

lol... the tea sounds good to me...i would definately take it home if i saw it and needed tea... around here they would charge you for that... usually the free stuff is stuff like gardening or car products that you can't ship out of hawaii so they keep it until they are ready to go and then give it away...

we have lots of tea to drink although we sometimes forget because we are so used to drinking water... my mom gave us a cute variety box which i keep near the microwave... we also have tons of black and green tea (gifts from relatives in asia during our trip to visit, sitting in a bucket in our pantry... and another bucket of coffee and coffee beans... *sigh* and of course crystal light from SAM's... we've been trying to work on drinking them...

Kealina: I have often had an abundance of tea.....I make iced tea, sometimes with various flavors, and that helps get through gluts. Sun tea is really economical. Also now I am making Iced Tea Popsicles. For variety, besides mixing tea flavors, sometimes I do sweetened, sometimes unsweetened, sometimes mixed with juice. I've also made tea ice cubes for iced tea. (A co-worker drinks tea but only one very specific type-people give her a lot that she won't use and then I get it.)

I am a garage sale addict!! My two best find were 1.) An antique high chair in GREAT condition. The lady had it priced at $25.00. My mom bought one (same kind) at a Antique Mall a year earlier and paid $175.00 for it. My dad refinished it and its BEAUTIFUL!! 2.) Antique/Vintage Christmas Ornaments. I am starting to collect these to have a vintage tree in my house one day. Bought 4 boxes of old ornamnets at $1.00 per box of twelve. They were in great shape and sell ofr anywhere from $3.00-$5.00 a piece at the antique malls. Also found a few odds and ends as well-vintage pyrex, etc.

lrjohnson, wow, that's a lot of tea although it does give me ideas...
garth, that's great...a vintage christmas tree sounds like a nice idea... me, i'm not too familiar with vintage stuff (or even designer) so i just stick to the stuff i like and try not to spend too much... i'm slowly learning though... i figure i'm still young at 24....
