Cell phone tip
We have verizon service on our phones, so I dont know if this tip will work for all services or not. With verizon, for every dropped call you have, you can get credit for 1 minute of service. I am unclear at this point on the details of this...I am on my parents plan so I just do what the momma says to do lol. She said to dial *** send after you drop a call, wait until it picks up and then hang up. I'm not sure if thats a one time thing or every time you drop a call. It's definitely worth checking into though, especially if you live in an area where service is patchy. Hope this helps someone out!

Re: Cell phone tip
i havent heard of this and i work for tmobile. if you have overage charges from the dropped calls you can get credits sometimes. but the company doesnt have to credit you.
my cell phone tip is not calling 411 for 1.49/call , instead, send a text message to googl. see http://www.google.com/sms/ standard text charges will apply.
or call your phone company and ask if you are on the best plan for your usage. or if their are any specials.

Re: Cell phone tip
I would concur with meenah and say that calling the cell phone company every 3-6 months is ideal to find out any good plans, maybe even talk to the disconnect department as well

Sell Your Old Cell Phone
There is a website called Cell4Cash.com that will buy your old cell phones from you. Whenever I switch carriers or phones, I sell my old phone here. You can enter your phone information on the site and they will tell you how much they will pay you for it. If you agree to sell, they send a postage paid box for shipping the phone. In a few weeks you have a check! I just sold an old AT&T phone to them today for $34. Some phones aren't worth that much, but I figure it's better than nothing (since I can't use the phone any longer anyway).

This may be valid, but I couldn't find anything on the Verizon web site to indicate that it is.
Instead, what I found was this; from the Verizon customer agreement:
"If you get disconnected by our network from a call in your home rate and coverage area, redial. If the same number answers within 5 minutes, call us within 90 days and we'll give you a 1-minute airtime credit. If service is interrupted in your home rate and coverage area for more than 24 hours in a row due to our fault, call us within 180 days and we'll give you a credit for the period of interruption. These are your only rights for dropped calls or interrupted service."
Another page on the same site says:
"If you get disconnected by our network from a call in your home rate area, redial. If the same number answers within 5 minutes, call us within 7 days and we'll give you a 1-minute airtime credit."
Nothing about dialing ***. Of course, you could call Verizon and ask them.

Internet phone is super cheap, but unless you make international calls to Europe (which are free with their unlimited plan), you will save more money with Packet8 or Sunrocket. Vonage service runs $24.95 for unlimited, Packet8 is $19.95 and Sunrocket has an annual plan for $199 a year. I've been using Packet8 for about a year and a half and it saves me around $500 a year.

Re: Cell phone tip
Packet8 is certainly an alternative. In fact, I only recommend Vonage, CallVantage, and Packet8 as viable VOIP alternatives to landline services. But there are trade-offs between all of the services. Depending on which company's plan you are looking at, sometimes the 911 fee is included, other times it is additional, sometimes your caller ID will be 'with name', other times just the number, etc.
I like Vonage's 500 minute plan. Though it's not good for people who talk on the phone a whole lot, the bill totals under $18 a month, taxes and all, for long distance and local calling up to 500 minutes. Even if you go over by 100-200 minutes it is still the cheapest way.
