Default Bogo Sales When You Only Want One

I went to the store the other day where they were having a buy one get one free sale for $4, but I only wanted one item. I assumed that if I bought one, the price would be $2 since there was no other prices marked where the items were displayed, but when I had the item rung up, the price was $2.59 Is this legal and how do you know the price of just one item when they have BOGO sales?

It depends on the store. At Ingles, you can buy just one and you do get it for half price. I know that rite aid will not do that, you must buy two of the item.

All I can think about is the commercial with Randy - The born saver.
"Can I just buy one twinkie?"

The BOGO are intended to help the store move more product. It's not the same as a half price sale.

I generally look for someone else that wants just 1 (generally, my cousin!)...just this last weekend we bought 2 cartons of eggs (1 carton = 30 eggs) at 2X1, so each of us got 1 carton @ $1.73 (when normally, HALF a carton goes for $1.50!!)

In CA, there is a law that states that if a per item price is not listed, then the price is 1/2 which is enforced through the California Division of Measuerment Standards and you can file a complaint form at www.cdfa.ca.gov/Complaint.htm if you feel that you were overcharged - I'm sure the rules are different from state to state

BOGOs require two products be purchased. It allows the grocer to move more of a product, and it is NOT a 1/2 price discount.

This is actually an area where you need to watch the register...if there is a problem and they "cancel" or "void" one of the two items purchased, the FREE item will be canceled and recharged at full price. Completely legal. The promotional special only applies to the SECOND item.

The stores I go to it's usually, B1 at regular price and G1 free, but if you have coupons for those items, you can usually use 2 coupons.

I bought the ice cream which was B1G1. I bought 1 for 5.99 and the second was free, then i had 2 coupons for them $1 each, so I paid $3.99 for both of them.

BOGO sells usually happen at shoe stores...just buy the one you want and sell the other pair on eBay.

I think it depends on the store. I usually only get the BOGOS when I want 2. But, sometimes the store will offer things like 10/$10 or something. And, I rarely want 10. In that situation, they give you the $1 price. So, check with the store manager.
