I usually give my dh haircut. He cuts the kids hair and mine. So we never have to pay for a haircut. I have never done my nails or hair at a salon.

I don't eat at the fast food. I go there only for the napkins and stuff. Whenever I go to the grossery store next door, I walk there, get the napkins, put them in my car, then go to the store. I guess it would be cheaper to buy napkins than go eat at the fast food place.
I consider this stealing. Going in and grabbing napkins but not eating at the place. Taking extra envelopes from the bank. These are the reasons so many "services" we use to get for free are either gone or charged for.

I have to agree with you. Those items aren't free...they cost the merchant to supply and that cost is passed on to the consumer. So many places make you ask for these things now...and it is a direct result of people who helped themselves so they could stock up at home.

I think those who take things for uses other than their paid meals at these establishments are stealing from them, and the rest of us pay for it.

Trash bags - save and use the plastic bags from stores.
Commercial spray cleaners - ammonia, vinegar, dish soap and water.
Protective covers for computer and other electronics - dry cleaner bags work as well
Personalized stationery, postal stickers, etc. - computer generated
Shaving cream - shower first and bath soap works fine

Funny how we all have our little economies and neat to find new ones to try.

That's the one thing I don't buy anymore. A lot of what I like to read you have to pay for, so I go to the library. Personal finance magazines especially. Its kind of galling to pay 4-6$ to get bad and outdated advice. Get it for free.

1. Envelopes and copy paper: I've been with 2 companies that changed their address while i was working there, so when they went to throw out all their letterhead stationery and envelopes, I scoffed them up. I'm STILL using envelopes from the 1st company i was with over 10 years ago!

Also, with Office Max giving you a free ream of paper when you return an ink cartridge for recycling, I've alwyas got plenty of paper.

2. Haircuts: i have my mother, my SO or myself cut it.

3. Weed fabric: doesn't work, so after coating my entire property with it and watching as weeds grew thru it readily, i gave up.

Isn't this call stealing??? Come on salt cost 1$ for a huge container, sugar is cheap as well and you can learn to live without ketchup. Napkin can be replaced by cloths....

Sorry to tell but this is not being frugal this is being cheap...

It's true that when some people steal these things, the rest of us have to pay for it. I noticed a sign at Burger King that they make you pay for extra sauce for chicken nuggets now. They must be tired of having to increase their prices to combat the stealing. Some people like barbeque or sweet & sour sauce on fries- if they want it, they'll have to pay extra now. What a shame.

I think this topic is more for things you no longer buy, not things you get for free. For example, you have gone from buying a name brand to now buying the store brand. I buy store brand butter. I don't buy margarine anymore. I read an article about how bad margarine is for you.

I don't buy notepads, post-it notes, etc. any longer. I save things like sheets with mistakes or driving directions I need for one-time use and then I cut these into different sizes for jotting notes and making lists on the non-printed side.
