Default The best way to spend $20?

I was getting out some old clothes and I found a $20 bill in one of the pockets of a shirt. These forums talk a lot about the best way to save money. I know that $20 is not a lot, but in your opinion what would be the best way to SPEND $20.

By spend, I mean that you have to buy something physical that you can touch with it (not pay off debt). You also have to be able to buy the entire thing for $20 (not part of a payment toward something that costs more than $20)

If you had to spend $20 on something, what would you spend it on and why do you consider it the best way to spend it?

I would use it to buy things at garage sales. I would consider it an investment and well as getting things I need at a good price. The investment part is that I sell some of the items I get at garage sales on ebay, so that $20 would acually grow into more money with a little time and effort on my part.

I might head over to the grocery store and stock up on canned goods. Hopefully they are on sale.

Or I might treat myself and try to find a nice blouse for $20.

I think there are times when money can be spent most wisely rewarding yourself for doing a good job in other areas. I would spend it as a reward on myself. I would probably go down to the local used bookshop and pick up a bunch of good reading material for myself if I had the money right now.

Re: The best way to spend $20?

This is an old thread but I'm going to reply anyway - What I do with found money like this is use my standard found money policy - it's a 3 way split.

A third would go toward the PAST - sorry I'd have to put some on paying down my mortgage. (I touch my house everyday! )

A third would be spent on the PRESENT - maybe a taco lunch at the ol' Bell &/or movie at the afternoon matinee for myself & children at $2.00 per person. Change leftover would go in the change jar to be shuttled to savings account on Saturday's bank run.

The last third would go to the FUTURE - I'd slip it into a tee-tiny CD at INGdirect.com or go long on tuna or whatever else was on sale down at the grocery!

steak! for imediate consumption (whatever cut was marked down)

or if I wanted something tangible for future use I would get something for the house, right now I am hankering after a cookie rack (the kind that stacks, so twice the cooling same space)

I would probably spend it on groceries, to fill in the holes in my pantry, on stuff that's on sale. Or, stuff for the freezer.

If I found the money today, I would use it to buy diapers as a shower gift for a friend who is having twins.

I would take the twenty dollars to a yard sale and look for items I could resell on ebay.

Ah, but Ima, an emergency fund is not "tangible." You are not playing by the rules. Try again.

I'd buy a bottle of champagne and some flowers to cheer my boyfriend up (bad week.....)

I might just do that anyway!

I would head to the Salvation Army store and Goodwill and look for items for my work wardrobe...clothes bought new are so expensive.

If I found $20 I'd go to the Thrift Store, find some books to re-sell and make a profit.

I allow myself the $20.00 as an allowance. Normally, I look for things I need at big discounts to see how far I can stretch it, and amaze myself on my finds! Oh, gosh......I save, save, save 24/7 so this gives me an outlet to spend a very frugal allowance and it usually goes to personal needs.

we would probably spend it on food or at yard sales... sometimes when you watch your budget too closely you start craving treats... if i craved a food treat for awhile and it came up on sale for a good price i would indulge myself.... if not i would indulge a different want at a yard sale... =)
