For a tax write off purposes: I usually keep the box and put there the items that are still good and I would throw them away. Or I sell them at the garage sale (whenever I get saturday off).

Those items are usually clothes that I don't want anymore. I would use them for rugs, but I have too many rugs already. Also my old shower curtain and bathroom rugs. Useless things that were given as gifts.
