Default Making hoisery last longer?

Now that I am working in an office where hoisery is required, I am finding that my hose do not last very long at all. My main problem is in the feet.

I know the tactic of using clear nail polish to stop runs before they get to long. But, I seem to remember that there was something else you could do to make hoisery more run resisitant. I think it was something about freezing them and then thawing them out before the first wearing???

If anyone knows, or has other tips, I would definitely appreciate them!

Thanks!

Laura

You heard the same tip I heard about the freezing.

How about buying hose with a reinforced toe?

Don't know what hose you like but I would get some real good deals at Marshalls. Another brand called Silkies is available mail order and they are tough. I think there is even a guarantee. Other people I knew loved a brand called Berkshires. These are sold in department stores.

Of course, the BEST solution would be if you were able to wear pants to work. Personally, the cost of hose is ridiculous.

cut and file your toenails

Oh and check the insides of your shoes, is there something making it harder ont he feet? Like a scuff right where your toes are/runs start?

Oops, hit enter and can't seem to find the edit button.

So far so good on the first pair of hose - two days and counting. 4 of the 7 pair I purchased had the reinforced toe. I think it's also helping that these are slightly big on me so I don't have to force them on.

Thanks again.

KIF,
Laura

Spray hairspray on them. It works like the nail polish, except that it comes out in the wash. Also, check out Hanes/Leggs/Bali mail order or outlet stores. You can get them pretty cheap there.

They sell a product called 'Hosiery Mate' you wash your hose separtely it is supposed to reinforce the fibers and make them stronger. I have heard that alot of women use it. You can find it at any major department store

If you can wear slacks I used to buy the knee highs @ Wal-Mart that are in the bubble gum machiene balls for .33 ea. Then when they finally had a hole or run I'd save them for spare lint traps on my washer. I always got my monies worth on them.

I also try to buy my hose bigger since I was always on the boarder of being one size or another.

Lane Bryant also has some nice hose & they are very durable. Unless I brushed up against something, I almost never got a snag in mine.

Thanks again for all your answers. Now another question. In my experience, knee highs don't have very good staying power. I do wear pants or longish skirts 2 or 3 days a week, so knee highs would work for me - if I could be sure they'd stay UP!

Rather than Knee Highs, buy the long dress socks. They don't run and they last alot longer. As do tights, they will also keep you warner in winter. I know there are hoisery that are not suppose to run at all. I'd do a search on line for them. But I gave up the hoise and went to dress socks and tights.

I usually pulled up my knee highs during the day when I was behind my desk. SO no big deal. Not shaving helps too Friction!!! for .33 a pair @ Wal-mart it's worth a try & if not use it as a lint catch for your washer.

See I tried the dress sock thing & unfortunatly we have a serious case of the SOCK MONSTER in my house so you wash all these black socks or patterned & never a match or they look like they match til you see the ribbing is different after you put them on & then you're in a panic trying to find a pair that matches.

I'm just thankful that I'm a sahm & I don't have to worry about any dress code or what/who's socks I'm wearing anymore

we only have one brand of dress socks, one brand one style, no trouble matching! Same for all other socks.

Control top/support hose, or any of the thicker but not as classy (or expensive) last longer. Christian Dior, can't even get them ON without running them. JC Penney's last longer than most. Do they still have their hoisery club (buy so many get one free?).

Hand wash only.

Frugaltexan- Yes, you are supposed to store your pantihose in the freezer. There is no need to defrost them! lynclarke
