I am fighting the urge to go to the bookstore after work today. There is a book I want, and even though it was payday Friday, I didn't get the $400 reimbursement check I expected, so I really should wait until next payday. I'm also fighting the urge to go pay off my luggage on layaway, when I know I should wait for the reinbursement check as well.

I had a gift certificate for a spa place. Instead of going low, I went ahead and got a manicure and a pedicure, to treat myself prior to vacation. Including what I went over on the GC and what I tipped, I spent $25 on a totally unecessary luxury. Since it's my first ever, I don't feel too horrible about it, although on My Challenge it's tough. I may coninue to do it every five years or so.

Taking the rail when you can frees up money sop when you feel yucky you can slept late without guilt, I hope! Feel better!

Bad bad me. I bought a magazine at the store last night. And the worst part is, it wasn't even a really good one! I would have much rather spent my money on one of the few magazines I collect, but this was just a Cosmo. I was feeling down and needed cheering up. Didn't work. I think that trip to Target (see my blog about feeling illegal) started me down a bad course again! Gotta watch out!!!

I put two stamps on an envelope to my Mom rather than go to the effort of 1)getting out the scales here at home or 2)going IN to the post office and veryifying the need for more than one. Bad mailer! Bad mailer! \\\\\\\\wrist slap///////

Somedays just being overly frugal is just not worth the additional effort, KWIM Ima??

Frugal: Bought a crock-pot (on sale, of course) so I can make economical meals this winter.

Unfrugal: Bought the $49 sale model instead of the $29 sale one I intended to buy. (Yeah, but it's digitally programmable! Automatically shifts to "warm" when it's done! I work long hours so if I bought the cheap one, it would crock the food to death. That wouldn't be very frugal in the long run, now would it?!)

Unfrugal: Instead of using my handy-dandy new crock-pot, I am taking my friend out to dinner tonight for his birthday. It's a tradition. (Don't even bother suggesting that I make dinner for him. The thing is still in the box and my fridge is empty.)

Frugual: My friend takes me to dinner on my birthday. So it's a wash over the course of a year.

I mailed a magazine to a friend instead of taking it to her. She lives up a steep mountain road that terrifies me to drive it!

This isn't always unfrugal. You really need to watch the unit pricing. I've seen several times where the grated stuff was actually cheaper than the ungrated.

bought some very beautiful antique globe ornaments at the New York Public Library for my sweet SO who is laid up with a broken leg and ankle. I figure, he can't get out to spend money, so we're still ahead....

Goofed this morning on moving CashHappySon's money into a 9 month CD. It will mature about 30 days late. This is for his car tag that is due in May '07. Was miscounting I suppose - it was about 3:00 a.m. so understandable I guess. At any rate he has several months that will have extra paydays in them between now and then and we've already scheduled enough monthly contributions to make up for it beforehand. I guess I should rename the CD to CashHappySonCarTag'08! No loss really, but I hate making screw-ups!!

This weekend was really bad. Monday is my mom's 50th bd so we've been celebrating all weekend. I bought her flowers, a new bicycle, lunch out yesterday, and I bought some new boots for myself and two frames when we were shopping on Friday. I bought them at Ross though so I only paid $40 total.

Also, since my dad is such a handy man and I have to get use of his services when he is at my home, I bought the new sink I've wanted and new faucets on sale. The sink was full price unfortunately. Fortunately, it is sooo much nicer than the sink we had that it is adding value to our home. He also put up a new outdoor light fixture that I bought at Lowe's last week on sale for $17. He had installed a light in my pantry on his last visit but the switch was faulty so he installed a new switch on this visit. I love to upgrade my home!

Since my dad is an electrician, he brings home spools for cable. My mom and I are going to paint them today to use them as tables. We bought some ivy stencils to decorate them once they are painted.

Hey,you're only 50 once (I was, last may!) and I can tell you that it's a hard birthday for a woman. What you did was priceless.
