I'd pay off my student loans and my house, give money to my college (Union Theological in the City of New York), figure out how much i needed to invest to guarantee some income for life, and then enjoy giving the rest away. How fun would that be!!!

After the inital shock here's what I would do.
Pay off mortgage (onoy debt I have) Sell house add this money to my stash Buy new house for cash Buy a motor home to WWOOF it around Australia without worries The remaining I would put half in a high interest internet account that I could get easy access to. Live off the interest 1/4 into a balanced managed fund and the final 1/4 into superannuation. Not sure if I would give my family or friends anything. Would have to wait and see how they reacted. |

A million would generate enough interest to live on. My husband could quit working 7 days a week, and only build when he wants to.

hummm, if I had $1,000,000 I would pay off our current mortgage ($111,000) then sell our current house ($150,000 - giving us $39,000 back), purchase a newer BIGGER house with some land in kansas ($250,000), pay off the new houses taxes for 5 years in advance (taxes are cheap in kansas so I would say $2,500 for 5 years) That leaves me with: $676,400 - give or take).
That means I would be living mortgage free so the only bills I would have is utility/phone bills. I would probably furnish the new house with some items and stuff but all in all I would have let's say $576,400 left, I would put that in a high interest rate savings account and let me earn some more. Might even think about opening a business though.... Gosh I only wish.... oh send me an invite to that party too! ![]() |

My 14yo son said that he would buy a $200-300k hous and a hybrid care all bought outright. The remainder he would invest while he continues to work and save more.
Me? I won't be working, that's for sure. I don't need a big home. 2-3 bedrooms would do fine. Bought and paid for. A silver BMW, with black leather interior and a slamming music system. The remainder I would invest so that I could have a modest income for the rest of my life then,I'd buy two dozen crabs, some beer, and relax. |
