I was noticing a soft drink cooler right by the check out at the grocery store today. Do any of you pay $1.19 for one soft drink? I never have in my life. What a rip off. You can get a 2 liter bottle for that!!

I have bought from work before when I had morning sickness and a couple other "weak" moments , and from the machine outside our local grocery (but it was only 50 cents) store at 3 a.m.--but that was a sprite for a sick kid and no one else in town was open at that hour. As a general rule, I don't buy soda at all.

If I am desperatly thirsty and driving out of town, I have bought water once or twice. Usually if we are going out of town, we take a tiny cooler and a container of water with us.

nope.

I have several times when I was extremely thristy. Not frugal at all.

Only when extremely thirsty with no other options. Unless we're at Walmart, it costs 1.25 or more for a bottle from the machine! Two liters are only 99 cents at the grocery store! They really take advantage of you're being in a pinch and jack up the price! (Not very ethical in my opinion.)

Only when I'm stuck in the building with the state department of public health...or if I'm having a weak moment, the work fridge is full, and can't remember to grab it on my way out the door...I try to stick to water there, as too many sodas isn't that great...

I will buy one at the gas station in the morning to take to work. Right now that is about two days a week. I tried taking ice and a can or 2 liter from the house, but I drive 45 minutes one way and usually the ice was mostly melted. and trying to remember, well,...! So now I usually buy one drink about half of it, take it home and put the rest on ice and finish it.

Yup, I buy them when I want a cold coke ready to drink right this minute. We all splurge on something from time to time.

This is a marketing scheme to entice spontaneous sales. Anything near the checkout is placed there strategically.
Nope, I do not buy soft drinks from machines, Now candy bars....that's another story. Woe is me! |

The only time was when I was in IT. Owner of the company wanted us to be comfortable around the clock (working), so the machine was stocked at 5 cents each, and the food vending machine was about the same. I LOVED THAT COMPANY!
I won't buy bottled, but I WILL stop at a drive-thru for an ice cold coke. My splurge. |

As a general rule, no. They are way too overpriced, But the marketing stategy works...we want the drink now where ice, a cup, and a 2 liter bottle aren't convenient.

No. I've gotten into the habit of putting bottles of water in the freezer and throwing them in the car when I leave. And since our tap water is really good, I've been known to refill those bottles and refreeze them.....

I usually get Sam's Choice or Food Lion brand 2-liters for 50c and 75c, respectively.
