you can cut cost of frigde/freezer costs by keeping it full, if you have an empty space put in jugs of water, if its full and cold, takes less energy to keep it cold, also if you use a few ice cube trays if you have an icemaker, i was shown somewhere here, that 40 percent of the cost of that is the ice maker, make your own to keep it full, then the ice maker dont run. that fourty percent of the cost of running your fridge, with ice and water, was the ice maker.

Sure! We became obsessive (for awhile) when we installed solar panels a few years back .
Aother cool device, if you want to find a particularly "evil" (power draining) culprit is to purchase a Kill-A-Watt device which you plug in between your appliance and the wall. When you're done, you could resale it for close to full price! Also, remember as appliances age, they do become less efficient.

1570 square foot apartment
Monthly bill just came--858 kWh, US$0.13 per kWh.
We live in the tropics and run the air-conditioner way too much. I'm trying to cut down, but sometimes it is just so hot and humid only an air-conditioner provides any kind of relief.

Just got my new bill - 406kwh - $0.1928/kwh, 29 days. AND because they're soooo nice, an extra $11 because they legislature approved a rate increase in November and they'd never started charging it.

I feel like we're doing pretty well considering we've had several days up in the high 90s.
