You can really save a few bucks if you show around for a new long distance carrier. The big 3 have had the market monopolized for years. There are alot of smaller players, that don't charge monthly fees, and are less than 4 cents a minute.

Also shop around for calling cards too-if you want to even further control your spending on long distance. There are calling cards for less than 2 cents a minute out there.

All in all become an informed consumer. Know about your phone bills and what the charges are.

I find sometimes my biggest extras on the phone bills... are the 411 and *69 .
