What frugal thing did you do today?
This site has inspired me to start doing things more frugally. I would like for you to post a frugal thing that you did today.
Two days ago, I was looking at chicken breasts but they were $8. Normally I would have just bought them, but I put them back. Yesterday, they were marked down to $3.20, so I saved $4.80!!

I like this idea!
Today I went to the library - free entertainment. I took out 6 books for myself and my son, and one movie - not to mention the half hour of fun ds1 had just by being there. I also made pancakes from scratch this morning.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I found 4 things to unplug yesterday. 4 things that pull power that we seldom ever use. One was an old vcr that has been plugged in and flashing the time for the past 10 years. It is in a kitchen cupboard and you have to sit on the floor to use it, so it is never used.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Instead of ordering takeout dinner (as per hubby's suggestion) I made dinner at home.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I don't know. We stayed home, but then we didn't have any other plans anyway. Plus, we have sick kids, so going out would be a bad idea.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Same as I do every day, cook at home, turn out all lights possible, kept the thermostat down and used blankets and small dogs to stay warm while watching TV

I'm staying home all day, and hanging my laundry outside to dry, after I washed it in cold, of course.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I used powdered milk for the kids pancakes this AM, and added vinegar to turn it into the equivalent of buttermilk. I've always done this when a recipe calls for buttermilk, don't even think of it anymore. If I was to buy buttermilk & use a half cup of it............I would likely waste the rest of the carton anyway.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
We did got out for breakfast today, but it was the first time we ate out in 2 weeks -- We've been very good about making/eating all our meals here.
I did not give in and buy coffee today, even though I was tempted as I walked past a Starbucks!!
We are making our own Chili in our crockpot today though, instead of ordering pizza or wings or whatever for the Superbowl.

Frugal thing was make pumpkin bread for church next sunday, though I am not sure they will understand (we are out of place to be frugal there)

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Princess - I don't use powdered milk, but I do make substitions for buttermilk. I start with 1 Tablespoon of vinegar then add enough milk to make 1 cup. I use this in place of 1 cup of buttermilk.
I unplugged two things in the bathroom that are not used everyday - still have to look over the rest of the house.
I bought a bag of popcorn today. DH and I have air-popped popcorn nearly every night. The bag cost less than $2 and makes 24 servings (each serving is about the same as one microwave bag). I figure the equivalent amount of popcorn in microwave bags, besides being SO much worse for you, would probably cost $10-15 (I haven't priced it lately). If anyone is interested - it's the easiest thing to make. Put about 1/4 cup of popcorn into a brown paper lunch bag, fold down the top, and microwave for however long you would normally put a bag in for. We season it with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and salt, or parmesan cheese. South Beach friendly!
And we made a batch of chili from scratch - seems to be a theme today

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I ate at a friends house last night. Free meal!! I keep the garage door open about 2 feet, so the dog can go in and out, but it keeps some of the heat in the garage.

Ate lunch at home, as i always do during the workweek. Also keeping my thermostat set to 60 degrees round the clock, sometimes down to 55 at night if i feel up for it.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I kept the heat at 60 downstairs, at 52 upstairs, worn 2 sweaters. Stocked up on diet sprite because it is on sale this week, 4-12pack cartons for $10, instead of $4 a piece. Used a $2 off coupon. Bought pork chops that were marked down.
