visitors lefthttp://www.savingadvice.com/forums/images/smilies/action/aktion033.gif
today finally feels normal. We will eat down the fridge today, tomorrow, Friday and then revert to our menu plan.
Picked up an easy meal planning/cookbook by local TV host Sandi Richard at the library. Today is my 3rd no spend day in a row but it will take all of July and part of August to re-align the budget.
Bought son a used car 6/14 and from then on have had visitors or extraordinary expenditures like a total of 6 visitors with 2 of 6 staying 8 days! The food and auto costs went through the roof!
Our major festival starts Fri. and I anticipate more visitors. The freezer is still reasonably full so will only need to add fresh produce and possibly some nibbles like chips.

I haven't posted to this thread for a while. Honestly, I've done some rather unfrugal things the past couple of weeks but I'm trying to get back on track.
Gas is cheaper near my office than it is near home, so I always try to fill up when I'm near work. Yesterday, my wife mentioned that she needed gas. I told her we'd swap cars today and I'd get gas in her van to save a little money. Neither of us has to go out of our way. Both vehicles get similar mileage. So no downside to doing this.
Gas was 6 cents/gallon cheaper and I got 15 gallons, so I saved $.90. Not a huge amount of money but if I do this every time she needs gas, it can certainly add up over the course of a year.

Just hung up a load of laundry. I don't ever run my delicates through the dryer and that has helped tremendously in their lifespan plus saves on electric.
Ate leftovers for lunch.
Listed some books I'd been given on Amazon. I've been working at it all week and have already sold one. Didn't make much money, but better than nothing since they were here anyhow and were free.

We went to the movies to see Wall-E. Ok, maybe that wasn't totally a frugal thing to do but:
I got 2 of 4 tickets free with passes I got using my Coke Rewards points. That saved $20.
I stopped at the theater on my way home from work and bought the tickets rather than ordering them online. That saved $4.
We stopped at the drug store on the way to the theater to buy snacks. That saved about $7.
We brought water from home instead of buying drinks there. That saved about $4.
So 4 of us saw a movie for $19.75 including snacks.

Staying the course. Spent $5.91 for hard copies of last week's wedding photos as bride and groom will visit here today. I'm happy to give them an smallish album [keep these $ Store albums on-hand] of photos I took at their wedding and reception.

Told husband I wanted a new storm door, which touched his frugal nerve, so he decided to see about repairing and spiffing up the one we already have.

Since my last visit to this site, I planted the first garden I've raised in years -peppers, tomatoes, cukes, zucchini, squash.
I only turn on the AC in mid-morning when forecasted temp goes above 85.
Continuing to hang out clothes to dry. Purchased a folding drying rack so I can even wash on rainy days.
Visited the Amish-run grocery store and purchased yeast in bulk, plus some bent-and-dent items. Made refrigerator yeast dough - had homemade rolls every nite for a week, and par-baked a couple of pizza doughs for freezer.
Trips to town have been cut back to twice a week (I work from home) and I'm using 'snail mail' and the phone more.
The most frugal thing I've done is actually writing down my goals for the next 6 months, along with action plan. Curbing spending to 'bare bones' to pay off a credit card. That credit card is in a block of ice in a Tupperware container in the deep freezer

This last week, I don't think I've been as frugal as I could have been... but I'll try to make up for it now

I have been using alot of the CVS rewards coupons for items that I was going to buy anyway. I also have shopped at Walgreens and picked up needed items on sale there as well.
Sunday, my husband and I went to Sears and he found a saw that was much better than the one he bought in Home Depot. The one from Home Depot was still unopened so he returned it. It was on sale and he saved $31.00. Also, our ice-maker broke so I spent the rest of the day online researching and checking for the new ones. The most reasonable one I found was $146. 00 on sale that had to be shipped. I took the machine to a place pretty reputable by my house and picked it up for $120. Big difference of $26.00 and my husband installed it last night saving even more money.

On July 4th, DH and I took our kids to our town's Fourth of July parade (free). My 3 year old picked up a lot of candy that was thrown from the floats. Since I only let him have a little candy for special occassions, I was thinking of keeping it for Halloween this year instead of throwing it away. It's all hard candy/suckers. Is that wrong?

Instead of following my stomach to chipotle for dinner, I decided to save the $ and make dinner at home. Though I may still be regretting it

I purchased professional-style clippers (i.e. a razor) to cut my own hair. No longer paying $15 for buzz cuts will save at least $150 per year.

Good for you. I did this over 3 years ago. I bought a clipper at the ConAir outlet for $15. Prior to that, I was also paying $15 each time at Hair Cuttery. Since then, I haven't spent a penny, so I figure I've saved over $500 so far. Plus, my hair always looks better because I don't wait as long between cuts since it doesn't cost me anything. I've also saved a lot of time because at the salon, I would sometimes wait 30 minutes or so for my turn, plus had to drive there and back. Now, I just walk upstairs, plug in the clipper and do a quick clean-up. The whole process takes 15-20 minutes.
