I was doing my weekly grocery shopping on Sat. Went to the fruit/veggie market first as $$$ are about half regular chain stores. Stopped at $ store to get Sunday paper (coupon inserts) where it is only $1 vs. reg of $1.79.

Went into the $$$ chain store next door and found a 1.7 lb pork loin fillet on clearance: Reg $9.99, clearance $4.99, coupon $1.25. Thus I will be eating pork this week as my primary "meat" for $3.75.

I'm staying home and not spending any money or gas. My hubby went out to buy gas for the pressure cleaner and I gave him a free coupon from McDonald's for a free Chicken biscuit. The taste is fairly good. We cleaned the driveway and sidewalk ourselves instead of having someone else do it. I have figured out that the pressure cleaner has more than paid for itself already. Even when we rented one, it was a bit costly especially if you needed it for two days.

I stayed at home all day (Sunday) and just did stuff around the house. I fought the urge to go buy a sub sandwich and just made a sandwich here at the house. With gas at $4.43/gal in my neighborhood, I'd guess that I saved between $10-15 by not leaving the house today.

I parked my car in a shopping center and walked to 3 different businesses. I used a CVS rewards coupon for 1.99 to buy more bandaids that were on sale for 1.99 and in turn paid 0 at the cash register and received another rewards for 1.99 off my next purchase. Purchased some bogo 1 free items and used a coupon.at the grocery store. On the way back, I stopped at McDonald's to get a free chicken sandwich. I took it home and had water. All total, I went to 5 different businesses but did my circular driving plan of saving gas.

I waited until I had enough money to make a car insurance and house insurance payment at the same time using only one stamp. Doesn't sound like much, but with stamps being almost half a dollar I look for ways to conserve them. Also paid ahead on both bills. Did one quick round of errands in town (didn''t buy anything but a prescription) and shouldn't have to go back into town until Sunday for church.

I also realized I need to check if some of my husband's prescriptions qualify for the cheap rates that Walmart and Giant Eagle are currently offering. He has no health insurance so we pay through the nose for his stuff.

Smile returned an unneeded item

My wife had bought two laundry baskets to use for recycling plastic and glass. Sure they were cheap, only $6.50 with tax. But I had a bunch of bins in another room that were no longer needed. I talked her into returning the new baskets and making do with one of the older bins. I'd have even been fine making do with cardboard boxes.
If it's not an unavoidable need, I'm holding onto every last red cent.

Default Picked up free tacos

Here's another one. Jack-in-the-Box was running a promotion on Thursday for 2 free tacos for anyone that showed a gas receipt. I NEVER buy fast food. But, I filled up with gas on home, stopped by Jacks and picked up the two free tacos.

I have a new account in a bank about 12 miles away that doesn't do external account transfers. The bank has a great money market rate of 4.00 APY until January of 09. I was going to take a check (another additional deposit) in person because there was another errand that I could do on the way. Like the above poster, I found sending the check at $.42 was a lot less than driving there. It would have cost me about $3.40 in gas. Somehow, .42 don't look so expensive anymore compared to buying gas.

I just installed a programmable set-back thermostat in my apartment.

Using the AC last month resulted in a $120 increase in my utility bill. I bet this $35 investment will more than pay for itself.

I bought $109 worth of Amazon.com product, yet due to applying gift cards and an Amazon.com bonus, I'm making $22.27 profit on the deal.

What I did:
Cut up stained shirts for quilt blocks and rags.
Fixed a dress with buttons I found
Fixed a skirt with material from the rag bag
turned down an offer to go out to eat (on me)
made everything homemade today food wise
used the United Project Nurse Line for free to ask about my pain from the car crash, this is free
bought a scooter that gets 100 mpg to replace the chevy nova that's dead and gets 16 mpg. (It will pay for itself in 6 months)
Also bought food in bulk, for a total of 275 dollars for 300 pounds, which will last about 2 to 3 months.
Bought a yogurt maker, a grinder, and a seed sprouter so we can have fresh yogurt, soy milk, tofu, and veggies for the cost of soy beans in bulk or lentils in bulk.
Bought tooth brushes (8 for a dollar), mouth wash (32 oz for a dollar), toothpaste (BOGO) and soap (BOGO) in bulk to lock in prices ahead of inflation. I have about 6 to 12 months worth.
Froze discount cantelope for use in my soy yogurt smoothies later.

Default keep food in car

Try keeping some food in the car. Things like crackers will usually withstand hot and cold temperatures. The advantage is that if you or the
kids becomes hungry you'll have something with you that you can snack on - rather than having to stop at a fast food joint and spend money (plus, depending
on what you have it may even be more nutritious).

Finally sewed a button back on my pants that fell off so I can start wearing again. No need to get another pair.
