It's starting to heat up & get steamy here again, so today it's back to 'cave' mode. The drapes are all drawn to keep out the heat and to keep the cooling expenses down.

Same here. I've got the shades down and I changed into shorts to do some housework, knowing that I'd be heating myself up, rather than turning on the AC.

My house was 59 degrees when I got up. It is hard not to want to turn on the heat, especially for hubby who works at home and his shop gets cold!

I'm on barrel #2 of my rainwater harvesting in the extra trash can. The first one lasted about a week of just lightly watering the tomato plants daily. Today I see the first tomato - it's about the size of a dime.

I stayed home. Didn't spend any money and had a no gas day. Like the idea of that rain barrel. I had left overs for lunch today.

No spend day. Deep cleaned the laundry/furnace room, taped the baseboard, ceiling and removed electrical plates to prep for painting. DH helped move W/D and moved sewing table & stuff to entry.

Spackled small nicks and will use paint from a previous project. Anticipate painting tomorrow which keeps me out of the stores for an entire week.

Wow! 90 pages of frugality on this thread!

Today I washed out the nice sturdy plastic pots and their carrying tray from the 4" annuals I bought for $0.25 each. Two weeks ago the store thought the plants were not worth keeping around, so marked them way down. Now they look fab and are blooming up a dainty purple storm! (Nemesia)

I start a lot of seeds at home in the late winter and really prefer the cell packs and pots specifically made for the purpose rather than yogurt cups, recycled coffee cups, egg cartons etc. So I washed out this set and will store it away in the basement for next year. Too often I have tried to save such things under my back porch, but the weather makes them deteriorate too quickly.

edit: What? Huh? I thought I was seeing 90 pages. Now I see only 45. ????

Made up about 2 gallons of potato salad-frugal if you compare the price to the already made stuff that only tastes 1/3 as good.
Spent $20 for fuel for the mower (then the belt slipped of the blades so still havent mowed). Whats frugal about that?? I'm mowing it myself instead of hiring it done at $120. (Big yard and orchard, and I also mow a 'walking track' around the hayfields and to the pasture gates)

Reheated the big pot of spaghetti CashHappySon made last night and added a salad and hotrolls I made yesterday for today's Sunday lunch. Opened a can of pears and served some iced tea. Lunch in about 5 minutes and I didn't have to waste a bunch of energy thinking about it! Yeah for mindless inexpensive eats.

Had a FREE bagel, coffee and a slice of bacon during SS this morning.

Paid an extra $71.00 on the mortgage principal.

Yesterday we visited Harbor Freight. I saw a 99 cent ball of string and tried to remember exactly for what garden purpose I needed some string. Since I couldn't remember, I just didn't buy the string. Today, my husband discarded a holey pair of knit summer shorts. I have begun shredding them into strips and winding the strip into a nice ball of garden-usable plant tying pieces. 99 cents saved and this softer fabric is bound to be better for supporting plants than any cotton twine.

Any left over scraps will go to the compost. It came from the earth, I'll return it to the earth.

Today I went through the fridge and used up some meat for dinner that was nearing the end of its expiration date. I had a London broil that I bought on sale. I put that in the crock pot with a can of beans and a gravy packet. I also had some turkey to use up. I put the turkey in another crock pot with a can of condensed tomato soup and a can of green beans.

I did that early in the afternoon and then left the crock pots on low all day. For dinner I just had to make up some pasta and then we ate the crock pot dishes over the pasta. Both dishes actually turned out pretty good considering I didn't use any recipes and was just trying to use up the meat and stuff from around the house.

I don't alway remember to use up meat by the expiration date so I was proud of myself today for not throwing anything out. Whatever is leftover at the end of today I'm going to freeze to use later in the week.

Leftover hambone from the freezer (it was Mother's Day lunch) used w/one of those 16 bean soup packages in the crockpot. Used leftover hot dog buns from cookout to make garlic toast. Added a salad for dinner.

Last Saturday I inventoried the deep freeze and fridge freezer and discovered there were too many cooked meals in zip bags. My challenge for June is to create all meals from pantry and freezer, using up items before expiry. I put $ 100. in an envelop for fresh produce, milk and items needed to complete recipes.

Thus far I've spent $1.99 for bananas to extend breakfast smoothies. I planned to buy raisins for rice pudding but the nearby 'bin' store was out of raisins.

This will be a particular challenge as I now learn we are expecting visitors in mid June and near the end of the month family we have never met [from Australia] will be using our home as their base while they travel in the region. This adds 4 extra mouths to feed in mid June and 2 people sporatically. YIkes!
