Well, I have not used the car since last Saturday and probably will not use it today either. On the other hand, I got a bad case of spring fever this week and bought myself a new swimsuit for the summer season, and splurged a bit. So probably a wash.

Hadn't used my car since Tuesday and that was a trip of under 1 mile up and back.

I made swiss steak (bottom round steak) in my crock pot yesterday. Even though the directions called from 4 to 6 hours, it was done in a lot less. I checked it after 3 hours and it was falling apart. If I would have cooked it to their directions, I would have cooked it for at least another hour. Using the crockpot uses less energy than the 220 electric range.

Also, more frugal is that I'm still cooking food that I had from our vacation.

I also did alot of my errands in one trip.

I wont be leaving the house today, so I wont be spending any money! I'm going to put off doing my laundry and wear things I usually dont to stretch the time before I go back to mom's in Ohio later this week!

Oh, and I ate leftovers for breakfast.

I've been on a terror to read books lately and have just begun to bargain shop for them. Recently, Disneysteve suggested I read The Millionaire Next door, being impatient to find it, I bought it at Borders. Today, while shopping at Goodwill, I found the book for sale for 1.25. I've decided that from now on I will buy books at bargain outlets, then give them as presents later.

Impatience costs people lots of money. Lesson learned.

On the rare occasion when I want to buy a book, I always check half.com and amazon.com. I almost always find a used copy of what I'm looking for for a fraction of the original price.

I just ordered two books on half.com and will be going there first from now on. Goodwill is just a few miles from my shop and they are a good source also. I don't know how long this reading frenzy will last, but the books I buy will make good gifts and bookshelf decor.

The best thing about buying used is that if and when you find you no longer want the book, you can usually turn around and resell it for about the same price that you paid. As with most items, new books depreciate rapidly but used, well cared for ones, hold their value.

I've always been one to impulse buy books. I've started searching them in the systems at the library recently, though. I've saved myself quite a bit of money. Though I tend to check amazon if I really want to buy it.

Actually a couple days worth of frugal things. At the beginning of the year calculated out the cost of sending in my Medicare premiums with stamps and saw the little blurb that if I paid with automatic deposits I would save $2/month. I don't really like automatic withdrawals, but figured I could time it with my SS check. Savings for the year $50.

Yesterday called the mutual fund that handles our IRAs and signed up to handle our accounts on-line instead of by mail. Saved $25/account x2=$50/year each and every year here after.

Today I went shopping for bras. Knew the brand and size but the store was always out when I was there, so started searching on-line. Found them with 3 different prices at different sites, so went with the lowest, but before checking out googled and found a promo code for 99 cent shipping! So I saved on the bras themselves, plus $9.00 in shipping, plus no gas wasted in shopping, and not much physical energy expended to shop on line (arthritis doesn't like shopping).

One always like to find a savings when you have to fork out for something anyhow. I bookmarked the promo code place as well for the next time I'm shopping on line.

Default Take advantage of the price of gold and sell your old karat gold jewelry

Have you considered selling unwanted gold jewelry as a way to get some extra cash? I'm certain most of you have heard that the price of gold is near record prices and old gold, silver and platinum are worth a lot of money. Does anybody have any questions about selling gold?

Not me, but my wife and daughter. DW usually drives DD to the bus stop in the morning. They walked today to save gas and get some exercise.

Is this the longest thread in the world, or what?

Today I transplanted flower seedlings from one set of recycled nursery cell packs to recycled plastic cups and four inch pots. Now I can re-use the cell packs to start a new round of seeds,

There was a time that I used to pay bills in person. Today, I go online and pay my bills. With the price of gasoline and stamps, I have saved alot. Not to mention my time in getting ready, time out and time getting back.

This week I have planted my tomatoes, and like Aleta I have automated a few more of my kids normal financial transactions this morning- saving them time, gas and postage. Plan on recylcing last nights goulash into lunch today.

I went to a picnic in the park with friends today. Instead of buying a sandwich from blimpies, I took some cheese and some water. Saved over $4!!

Stayed home today, no fuel spent, no money spent. Last nights supper was entirely cooked from scratch, as well as all todays meals. Washed 1 load of laundry that I hung to dry. Kept the TV and radio off all day today, as well as most the lights.
The heat and AC have been off all week.
