I discovered the Dollar Tree today. I've been meaning to stop in for awhile and I finally did. I bought school supplies for the upcoming semester, some cleaning supplies (mop, broom, laundry soap), and a couple of photo albums for just under $12.
I must go back. I'll probably become addicted to the store.

Cassandra, just be sure you know your prices. The dollar stores are often more expensive than places like Target and Wal-Mart.

Wegman's

I didn't pick up any can tomatoes for this sale since I was well stocked. I seem to recall the prices were ~$4.99 for 12 cans (28 oz/794 g). So that's ~42 cents/can.
Wegman's is not too convenient for me (9.35 miles (per their site, crow? ). I laugh when people will drive 10 miles out of their way to pick up a sale item(s). Let's say they get 20 mpg, then lost ~$3 in gas, plus the extra time. I just checked Wegmans website. ~Not too impressed, I tend to stay away from the heavy manufactured stuff too. I see the $0.39 same size cans and the prices are fairly decent on p. 8 of the Princeton flyer. It looks like that would be the only item of interest on that page. Try to resist that great price on the ice cream None of the items on p. 7 appealed to me.
I buy the puree version of that brand (have in my home now) since it has 15 mg sodium/serving whereas the other version have much higher Na levels.
What is the amount Na/serving in those crushed tomatoes?
I try to remind myself: health first, everything else second.

Mikeee - We're lucky. Wegman's and Shop Rite are in adjacent centers. Sometimes we even go into one store for certain sale items and then to the other for other items on the same trip.
I know the tomatoes I'm referring to were much pricier here than what Wegman's is charging. That was just one example, though. There were also a few other items that weren't really that cheap at Shop Rite. Our Shop Rite is a zoo during Can-Can sale and unless the prices are really great, it isn't worth dealing with it to save a few cents. And in this case, Wegman's was matching or beating most of the sale prices anyway.

I used to buy yeast in those little packets...3 for $2.79....but one day I found a big brick for $2.99 at Costco....I have baked several times a week with it for at least 3 months and am not even 1/2 through the yeast!!! Best frugal find this year!
|
I do the same but at BJ's, yes it lasts a long while plus one gets 2 bricks! So one is in the freezer.

The Shoprite
is a few miles away with a dollar tree in the same mall.
Just went there to get fruit and veg. & my rain checks. Turns out I picked up 2 items that were at the same sale price So save the checks for a later date.
Spurged on chocolate bars, they had them for $1/5 oz (141 g). A few dark, one almond. They are in the freezer now.
Handed one rain check for (qty=2) Turkey Hill ice cream to some one shopping in the store so I success resisted that urge.
Then re-used 4 bags and got 8 cents back, plus helped the planet. Second time I did that, I figure I'm helping the planet.
Visited the BJ and bought stuff I will use. Then walked 150 yards through the rainy parking lot and bought one more item.
Plus reported some prices on gas buddy.
So I did spend $ today, however the last 4 days were $0.

My grocery store had a sale on Prilosec ( a good sale). My husband bought the wrong one (its for him) and I took it back today because they had run out of the one on sale. I went to CVS, showed the manager the grocers ad and asked him if he would match it and he said yes. Otherwise I was going to have to go to the other chain store (not close) and hope that they had them. Had $5.75 in coupons in one store and $3.60 in another one today. A total of $9.35 not to mentions the items that were on sale. I went to 6 different places for errands today, about 5 to 6 miles and it would have been more if I would have gone seperate times. I just did my circular thing with my errands and was back home by 12:00.

I went to check on the indoor-outdoor thermometer which is kept in our empty, closed off bedroom. It is 50.0 degrees in there today. Not using it: no reason to heat it.

I am eating all my meals at home. Lunch was leftovers. This morning I went wall malking with my friends and we walked for 3 miles. It is a great way to save money because I can exercise without a gym membership. Plus the mall only has about 6 stores open (because it is a dying mall)- so there is no temptation to buy anything!

My oldest daughter asked for a robe to wear at the house. I first went to a popular retail store and they had a child's robe for 12.00. I decided against that then went to a second hand shop and found a used robe for 3.00 in great condition. She loves it and now I can feel less gulity as I turn the heat down to save money.

rent vs buy
instead of paying 5 dollars to rent a movie with 3 kids each wanting thier own, costing 15 plus tax = 15.90,i went to walmart and bought them each one instead, costing the same price, from the 2 for 10 bin, which isnt a clearance, its a daily item.

I found a chandlier at Lowes last night that was over $500. We got it for $180. It will go in the house we are building for some people. It is so beautiful and I am happy that we saved them some money!!

I took back some bad cottage cheese to Ingles. I had no receipt, but they took it back anyway and gave me the cash. Then I bought some bridge candy on sale, saving $1.50 on that.

Haggled with the CC company and got over $300 in fees reversed as well as accrued interest ($78). This was their fault but if we wouldn't have been the squeeky wheel, we would have been out $378!
