I walked to the grocery store 2 days in a row, not wanting to fire up the pick up truck, since the little car is off on a trip with husband and son. Today will make the third day in a row of walking. I have to go back because the store had sold out of flour and confectioner's sugar last night! I guess I'm not the only one doing a LOT of Christmas baking, eh?

A general contractor is having a Xmas party and my husband will be there feasting, so I will get a night off from cooking. I reheated a chicken scaloppini dish that I made last night. I also went to the store and the manager told me that he some cans that got dented when they were taking them off the platform. If you eat it right away, there isn't a problem. I bought a can of asparagus for .35. He also had some dented stove top stuffing boxes for .59. I just took the pouch out and threw the box away. Some people just won't buy anything if it has a dent in it and I lknow there is nothing wrong with the pouch. Bought my granddaughter a stocking that had a teddybear attached to the front for $4.99, I couldn't believe it. They want to get rid of stuff, just look around.

While doing renovations we checked Craig's List and 'Bargain Finder' on-line for items like insulation and quickly learned that renovators often have over bought. If you are willing to make a list of needed supplies and quantities most is almost free.

We got great deals and traded time and effort to save money.

Drank a coke that we brought along on a trip instead of buying one at 4 times the price.

Made my own veil (with help from my mom) for my wedding. The veil used about 2 yards of tulle (~ $2), some left over silky white cord I had used for a roman shade, 5 clear rubber bands, and a pearl clip. It sounds hideous when I say what I made it out of, but it looks beautiful. Veils at David's Bridal cost upwards of $75.

Bought 2 big cans of nuts for $7.99, usually priced $9.99.

I don't know if this is "frugal" but here's what I did today:

Because it's the end of the year, I decided to take all the change from our 4 change jars in the house. I counted it all up, separated it and will have the money deposited on Monday.

Almost $200 will be split up and go into our 3 ING accounts.
Another $100 will be used to pay on our Best Buy card next month where we just purchased our big screen HD TV. our monthly payment is only $18 with 0% interest for 3 years. We are planning on paying it off MUCH earlier than that (we just paid $200 on it today)

i did not buy anything out of the 50% off holiday baskets at the grocery store (most of the stuff was way overpriced in the first place so 1/2 off was not that great a deal)
but i did take the money my nephew gave me for a Christmas gift and went to bartell's. got four cologne gift sets at 50% off. i do this every year--usually keeps me smelling good til fall.

GARDEN__Raked up the three barrels of leaves that the wind deposited on my sidewalk. This is frugal because I add them to my garden and compost pile, greatly improving the soil without ever having to spend a dime for soil conditioners or fertilizer.

__Tore an empty toilet paper roll into small bits to go into the compost pile. It all adds up to healthy, fertile soil and less stuff to go to the landfill.

__Picked up yet another free newspaper which gets tossed in my yard (against my wishes) and will put it underneath mulch in the ornamental garden in spring to add to the mulch effect.

KITCHEN
__Hung ten pounds of onions purchased for $0.30/lb in a dark corner of the cool cellar. The price will be up later. Not a huge savings, but every little bit.... , right?

__Arranged with a Craigslist person to give him our wine bottle empties. This contributes to his frugality, rather than my own, but I sure do like knowing the bottles will get re-used.

LAUNDRY__Hung another load to dry. Someone left a tissue in their pocket, though, so I ran the laundry through the drier for a couple minutes to fluff it off the clothes before hanging to dry. It had been so long sine I'd used the drier that I had forgotten how to turn it on! I applaud myself for that small incompetence.

Stayed at home and used what was in my cupboard. Also am waiting for one day to do all of my deposits, merchandise returns, and the like.

Made some fire starters (lint inside of empty TP rolls) for the burn barrell and fireplace. For lunch we are having left overs from when DH cooked on the grill Saturday night.
Washed the girls coats, and hung them to dry as opposed to using the dryer.
Seeing how long we can go today without lights on. Its almost noon and I haven't turned one on yet-but may have to when we start school in 7 minutes (noon to 3) as it is clouding up outside.

I had 2 ink cartridges refilled at Walgreens for $10 each. The last time I bought ink cartridges for my HP I paid $27 each. So, $34 savings.

This post confuses me because it should almost say what frugal thing did you do yesterday since you won't know until the day is really over or that it's night time when you post.

Anyway, I had another no spend day yesterday and used no auto gasoline. I made what I had in my cupboards and used various vegetables for a salad.
