Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Today was yard day. Mow, trim trees etc. Well the nectarine tree had to be severely trimmed. I have an electric chain saw and was able to do the job. The good part was that we were able to mulch most of the small branches and there is only one trip to the tip for the thicker timber.
4 hours work but saved a fortune if I'd had to pay someione to do it.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
This happened today as a result of frugality in the past. We cancelled our auto insurance and switched to a cheaper company. This saved about $100 of monthly premium. Well, Friday, our minivan broke down and it will cost $600 to fix. Today, we got a refund of premium from our old insurance company for $500, so we will put that toward the repair. What a blessing that money was and totally unexpected, because we thought the refund would only be around $50!!
PS: To show you what a real blessing this was, the mail carrier must have dropped some of the mail, because my husband found the envelope from the insurance company on the ground outside. There was a bad thunderstorm last night, lots of wind and rain. and dh thought it was a piece of trash until he looked at it and saw it was from our insurance company!!

Steaks & potatoes are cooking as we speak. 3.75 + .75 potatoes + .40 sour cream = dinner for two $4.90. Declined a meal out with our SS class tonight @ 12.00 each.

I used the leafblower for about an hour and The Hubster is now sacking up leaves like mad! Top yard is clean - for the moment!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Cinnamon biscuits baking in the oven .59 cents - Owens sausage links frying in the pan .50 + 4 cups of milk for beverages 1.00 = $2.09 breakFEAST for four!
Letting the oven cool down by opening the oven door to heat the house = FREE heat!
Waking up to hot coffee w/breakfast cooking and cinnamon wafting? PRICELESS!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
well, for yesterday i cleared out the freezer a bit: 1 lb of shrimp and a pack of sirloins. DH and i had surf & turf complete with herbed corn and rice pilaf with lentils, sum total was about $10 and enough food for 4 folks (not that anyone else was here, that's just how much food we had!).
DH proclaimed at the end of the meal that the $50 a plate surf & turf from a local steakhouse was no comparison. money saved = $90 (more if you consider the effort required to dress up to go out to eat!).
even better: i get a surf & turf lunch for work next week. woohoo!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I made my next friday grocery list matching coupons to the ads. I'm also going to bake some white bread since we are out. No point in going to buy it.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
baked 3 loaves of bread yesterday. Today, I bought a generic in cartridge. $4 cheaper than the HP brand, but still too much in my opinion. Tonight we are going to eat at a free chili/soup dinner-a community event-everything is provided, all I will be out is the fuel to get there and back.

I dressed warm and kept the heat off all day. My puppy sleeps on a heating pad all day to keep warm.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
DH and I had a 3 day, no spend weekend---FIRST EVER! Boy did it feel good, cooked up the food at the back of the cabinets/freezer, went biking, went to the beach, watched Netflix videos, cleaned house, played with the puppies and caught up with friends.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Changed my wiper blades myself ($23.88 for blades) instead of having the shop do it ($35.00).
I'm all for paying a skilled technician to do stuff I can't (or won't) do myself, but pinch, pull, unhook, hook, push and latch? Two minutes of 'labor' is not worth $10 to me. Also, I don't replace them every six months like I'm supposed to, as it only rains during the winter here. Seems silly to put new blades on that will never be used.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Cancelled my subscription to Gevalia...I signed for the free coffee pot, then scheduled one more shipment to ease the guilt.
Made chicken soup with chicken bones from last night's dinner.
DH had leftovers for lunch....if he did not finish those leftovers today they would have been tossed.
For my lunch I finished up some ham from the deli...again, it would have been tossed if I didn't use it today.
Pellet stove off all day, even though it was a bit chilly. I put an undershirt on DS and I wore a sweatshirt.
Used a $1.50 coupon for diapers at Walmart.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Bought some christmas gifts, all on sale. I have held on making a deposit for several days and earned about $15 in interest on the money!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
What do you mean that you held on making a deposit and earned $15. in interest$ I know that the faster that I deposit or transfer into the account paying more interest, the more I make.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I hate to admit this but truth is truth. Yesterday, I had my hair cut and didn't have my face waxing done. By the way, I go to a County Beauty School close by and I usually get a very nice cut. One thing that you can do that I did was I took a picture of a haircut in there and the teacher ended up cutting it because it was new to some of the students. Anyway, I went home, looked in the mirror and realized that I should have waxed my upper lip. So, something that you girls can do. I took out some Postal Tape and did the same as the waxing is done and just pulled it off the same as they did. How''s that and I saved the money I would have normally paid. I have done it before when I was in a pinch. It works!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Yesterday I purchased a pair of clippers on clearance for $7. My kids' hair cuts cost about $10 each, plus tip! Last night DH and I very bravely took the clippers to the kids...and it doesn't look totally bad either! It's passable for a haircut. And we'll get better...I know it.
$18 saved. In six more weeks, it will be another $25 saved. Multiply that by 7 more haircuts in a year - now we're talking serious savings. And they are young enough that we can get away with this for at least a few more years.
DH said that if I get good enough, I can do his too

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Planning to use up the last of the garden broccoli in homemade soup tonight. I put the leftover pumpkin puree in the freezer before it goes bad. And I am staying home all day.
